Background: I'm administering a quiz for the first recitation of the semester.
Me: Please do not write on the quizzes so that I may re-use them.
My students begin taking the quiz.
A student in plain view of me begins writing on the quiz.
Me, outloud: Do not write on the quiz.
Student continues writing on the quiz.
Me, louder, more gruffly, and pointedly: Do *not* write on the quiz.
Student still continues writing on the quiz.
Me, to the Student that Could Not Listen: Hey, when I said don't write on the quiz, what do you think I mean by that?
Student: Oh, I wasn't writing on the quiz, I was just circling my answers.
Me: How is that *not* writing on your quiz?
Ladies and gentlemen, don't worry--this kid only wants to be a medical doctor. I am heartened that your future physician is capable of following simple instructions and making reasonable interpretations regarding guidelines and actions.
I hate it when my plans gets fucked up.
