Today, Christy and I delivered the entire “Simple Objects” exhibition to the Sutter County Museum in Yuba City. Jessica Hougen, the curator and director, is going to install her vision of what the next iteration will be. We’re very excited about this, as we hand off our interpretations to a new audience. In addition, several area artists are also participating. Hard to believe, but the first anniversary of the Camp Fire is Nov 8. Our hearts continue to reach out to all who’ve suffered. We had a lovely and sincere visit with Senator Jim Nielsen, who represents the 4th District. Other visitors included Paradise residents who also lost everything, including collections of books, an entire studio full of their art. It was an afternoon of connections and community. Hanging out at the CA State Assembly with two members, Kevin McCarty, and James Gallagher, who represents the Butte Co. district. We were disappointed to miss Senator Nielsen and also Governor Newsom, but left each a copy of the exhibition catalog. I sat in the Assembly chambers for awhile, listening to last minute voting on parts of the budget that passed last Thursday. Interesting. Thanks to Alex Harold, Kevin’s staff person who babysat me. Simple Objects: An Excavation. Installation reflecting upon one family’s loss of two homes. A collaboration with Christy Heron-Clark, born and raised in Paradise. I was born in Chico. This has been an intense and emotional experience, from our first archeological dog in late January, to holding and documenting each item.
