What the hell? Was he drunk or high off his ass? She couldn't tell. Despite her overwhelming urge to flick his forehead in an attempt to bring him out of whatever daze he was in, she sighed and sat on the couch. She threw one leg over the other and she grabbed the remote, turning on interdimensional cable with a subtle movement of her finger. She looked over at him and pouted slightly, camouflaging her desire to laugh.

“Rick, fucking relax. It's Chinese food. Come sit down and watch interdimensional cable with me, you goddam nerd..”

A QUIET MOMENT WITH YOU …

                  she didn’t know how to respond to this. how was she supposed to respond to something that seemed so intimate and endearing to this man that she hasn’t known for very long? he treated her kindly and had respectfully, but was it possible for her to feel the way she did? how could a person feel this strongly about someone they barely knew? she found him incredibly charming, handsome, clever, humorous, and intelligent. was that enough to allow herself to open up to this near stranger? 

                  she laughs. it isn’t mocking or malicious, but genuine and delighted at his words. tears form at the edges of her eyelids, wiping them away as she tries to calm herself down from her bubbling laughter.

Aside from her position as a very well-known, most-feared assassin throughout the multiverse, that wasn’t the only reason why she killed so often. She also took the lives of shitty people because of the aching hole in her heart that could never seem to be filled. No matter where she tried to put the anger, the emptiness, the grief. It still ate her up inside. But, taking her rage out on dirtbags numbed all of these suffocating emotions. Even if it was just for a while.

She raised her eyebrows at him, her voice unwavering. “Elaborate.”

It had been months since Alissia’s dimension hop, months since she told Rick it was better if she left him alone. She made a selfless decision to end… whatever it was that was going on between her and Rick. If he was going to succeed in life, he needed to be away from her. But just because she made the decision, didn’t mean it was any easier on her. Alissia loved Rick. The club owner had rejected any and all contact to and from from him since. She had to suck it up, be responsible even it was killing her.

Joshua - the hopeless romantic that he was, wasn’t giving up on Rick and Alissia. The uncertified matchmaker still had Rick’s cellphone number from before he was fired, and without hesitation text the blonde rocker.
