It really amazes me that there are actually people who will never know either a) what it's like to speak more than one language or b)have to learn your parents' language through Duolingo because even though they never taught you they still want you to know it. ?Thoughts?
I mean, not everyone has access to the same opportunities, and that’s the same for learning languages. It doesn’t make sense to bash people for not being able to learn languages, even if that language is their parents’ language or their mother tongue.
Like take me for example. I’m 17 and i still have a very basic understanding/knowledge of tamil even though it’s my mother tongue. And due to circumstances im still not able to access resources and due to personal issues i still find it hard to learn it.
I don’t think it’s something to be amazed about. Learning languages means different things to different people, and it is hard, especially when people don’t have the same resources or they have certain feelings regarding it. And we shouldn’t be amazed by it, we should respect that they are people and they know what’s best for them.
