Ahoy there, Story Tellers!

Are you interested in telling a tale of the high seas? Is it full of romance and adventure or drama and mystery? Well now you can share it with your fellow Sims 4 Story Telling community with a whole new writing challenge! 

The Pirate and The Prince marks the beginning of a new series of monthly writing challenges, hosted by me. With these challenges you have total creative freedom! Be it a short story, a poem, or full length series, the only rule is that the story must revolve around the prompt.

This sims story is about the tale of a Pirate and a Prince. Any genre, any trope, anything goes!

The Pirate and The Prince

Part 1 - Part 2 - Next

1690.

Tapping of uneven footsteps echo off cobblestone as salty night air washes away the aroma of roasted meat and bread. Cold winds blow back the prince’s cloak, sending shivers down his spine.

Although of royal blood, being the youngest of four brothers has kept James out of the center of attention, being able to maintain some anonymity. Normally an annoyance but currently a blessing.

I can’t let them see me. He thinks to himself as he brings back his hood.

The sounds of muffled laughter and conversations spill out of oak doors as the cloaked prince approached a back-alley tavern, the smell of stale ale and must drowning him as he walks in.

Exchanges of food and tales bellow from the patrons who fill the tavern’s benches; barmaids and wenches litter the path to the bar top.

Fortunately for James, the tavern is busy tonight, but he figured it would be. He knows who is lingering in the shadows here, knows the squalor keeps him hidden.

Carefully, as to not draw attention to himself, James keeps his head down as he descends into the tavern. A shady demeanor would help him blend with the grim looking characters that reside here.

As James walks towards the tavern keeper, a distracted barmaid collides with the prince, throwing ale to the air, “Oi! Watch where your goin’, Love!” exclaimed the barmaid.

Disgusting.

Brushing ale from his cloak, James sneers as he moves past her.

“Well, ya don’t have to be a prick about it” scoffs the barmaid, as she turned away from him.

Any other night she would have been made an example of for insulting royalty. Any other night, James would have flexed his authority, showing her that respect was his birthright. However, tonight was not about these plebs, it was about him, and what he deserves. What he was going to take.

Rows of drunkards filled barstools at the head of the tavern, a keeper serving ale. Finding an empty stool, James sat with his head down.

“What can I get ya’?” said the Keeper behind the bar.

Without lifting his head, James mumbles, “I’m looking for someone.”

A smirk across his face, the Keeper chuckled out, “I’m not sure you’re my type, but there are plenty of pretty ladies here tonight.”

With a grimace, James lifted his head up to peak under his hood, “I’m looking for Redgrave.”

The smirk fell from the Keepers face, “I don’t know what you’re on about. No one named that here. Now, do you want a pint or-“

The Prince reached under his cloak and tossed down a large pouch of money, “How about now?”

The Keepers mouth quivered as he snatched up the coin bag, he whispered, “Fuckin’ idiot. Can you not be more conspicuous?” Waving to the room, “Tossin’ money around with a lot like this, goin’ to get us both killed.”

Placing the pouch behind the counter, “Fine. I’ll bring you to him but make sure you’re not actin’ like a damn twit. I’ll have enough to clean up tonight, don’t need a dead body stinking up the place too.”

The Pirate and The Prince

Here is the first part of my submission for this months writing challenge. (I’m going to post in multiple parts because I feel like it might be a little long for just one post.)

Part 1 - Part 2

1692.

The smell of oak and salty sea brine has filled my lungs this past year I have searched for you. The creaking of the boat’s wood, twisting and moaning, echoes the cry of my soul, yearning to find you again.

Where are you?

Where are you?

 1694.

3 years. The men aboard the ship have started to view me in contempt. They doubt my reasonings, my search, my logic. However, with luck, my pedigree over-rules any misconceptions they may have of me.

They don’t understand.

But you do.

You understand what it feels like to steal and to be stolen from. A cold chill in your winds that casts heavy in your sails; a drive that keeps you moving forward.

Oh, pirate of treasures, you have pillaged and stole all rational thoughts from me.

 1696.

The tides have changed, and the smell of fresh water fills the air. A storm brewing that looms ominously in the distance, casting darkness beyond the horizon.

Is that you?

Have I gotten close to you? Will this pirates curse that has plagued me these past 5 years, finally come to an end?

Will you-

 Paned wooden doors slam open as the ship’s lieutenant bursts into the captain’s quarters. Out of breath but with excitement in his tone, “Sorry for the intrusion, Your Highness. I have news.”

Engrossed in pensive thoughts and indifference, the prince stayed silent at his desk.

“Your Highness, there have been talks of Redgrave being sighted in a coastal cove.”

He has heard this before. He’s too far gone, too deep in to get his hopes up again. He says nothing.

The Lieutenant begs, “Your Highness, he is only 3 Knots away.”

His chest tightness as the words fill his mind and the ink of his quill bleeds onto parchment.

3 knots.

Slowly, as to not scare away the prospect of his journeys end, he lifts his head to face the lieutenant, “He’s close?”

Relief and a smile fills the visage of the lieutenant, “He’s close.”

At last.
