I guess I wasn’t online when the apparent drama happened… I didn’t even know there was any drama! And I like it that way :)
I've just seen people referencing it in posts like oh noes it's Friday. I don't know of any particular dramas.
And yes, I like it that way too. I've been there, done that, got the hospital bracelet to show for it - stressed myself into an ulcer worrying about what people thought about me and why they hated me so much and what I was doing wrong, back when I got epic hate there.
Finally realized that they were the ones with the problem. So now I have it blacklisted, I immediately unfollow anyone (and I mean anyone, because I tried trusting people who read that site and I got burned, every single time) who mentions it in any other way than "It should die in a fire", and, well - secrets about me haven't been allowed in years.
Really though - I hate it when people tell the victims to just ignore the hate, because I think that's victim-blaming, and having been there myself - I will never judge anyone for how they respond individually to getting hate.
But as a community, as bystanders who enable the hate, yeah, I agree that if we just ignored it and let the trolls stew in their own hate juices, it would either go away or at least not cause problems in the rest of the community. But I know that's not going to happen, so I just deal by putting up some extremely thick boundaries. Every person I've ever tried to be friends with who read the secrets hurt me, deeply. So now the second anyone shows a hint of reading it or blaming its victims or supporting its existence, they're gone. They're outside my moral circle. I don't care how nice to me they've been in the past. I don't even care if they're responding to a "love" secret. Acknowledge that site's existence with any attitude other than "It should die in a fire", and you're dead to me.
Nothing teaches you to protect yourself like nine weeks of excruciating chest pain followed by nearly bleeding to death.
