Promises and Poisons
Brooklyn was furious.
Absolutely positively Seeing-Red furious as she glared the girl down.
Lee winced slightly, pushing herself up from the couch where she lay.
"You told me you were okay! You promised!"
"And I was- uh, am" Lee managed weakly in front of the pure wrath of the younger girl.
"Does that look okay you?!" Brooklyn snarled, brandishing an arm at the sickly green skin surrounding the puncture mark in Lee's stomach.
Lee tried not to look at it too much.
"S.A.M scanned it" She defended, trying to prop herself up a bit more and ignore the light-headed spinning that occured.
Brooklyn just crossed her arms, blue eyes boring into the girl.
"And what did S.A.M find?" She asked, a silent fury in her tone and Lee gulped.
"Uhm it's- it's poison" She stammered "Natural, not artificial and-"
She went to reach for her watch, which was on the coffee table, trying to keep relative eye contact with her friend.
Her fingers closed around the watch and the wound twisted the wrong way.
Her strangled cry of pain was muffled as her body curled, the poison burning and the world spun viciously.
Lee's breath came in shallow pants as her eyes fluttered open again.
She was stopped half way through speaking.
"You need to rest, S.A.M can help me with a cure" Brooklyn said sternly and Lee protested weakly.
"Ah" Brooklyn gave her a look and the girl slumped back down with a half-protesting-half-pained whine "Come ma cerebro, sleep"
Fingers brushed away the hair from Lee's corpse white face, her breathing stuttering every now and again as she drifted off as if on command.
Brooklyn's fury died down eventually, morphing into a worry that plagued endlessly as she fiddled with the slow moving purple liquid in the tube.
"And you're sure this will work S.A.M?" She reaffirmed and the mechanical voice sounded.
"Yes Miss Brooklyn, the cure has a 68% chance of clearing the toxin from her body, a 7% chance of no effect, and a 25% chance of death"
The last bit made Brooklyn blanch.
25% Chance of death. 7% chance of a coma.
"S.A.M, did anybody tell you you're really good at pep talks?" She managed and the mechanical voice paused.
"I believe that may be sarcasm Miss Brooklyn, but Master Lee has told me a variation of that statement previously"
Brooklyn took a deep breath, taking the syringe in hand and walking over to Lee.
Her friend was a pallid shade of grey, her hair stuck to her forehead and the veins she could see were tinged a foul colour she couldn't quite make out.
Lee's eyes cracked open slightly, sleep crusting them as she mumbled incoherently under her breath.
Brooklyn gently shushed her, placing a hand on her forehead to find it burning "Sleep ma cerebro, sleep”
She pushed the cure into Lee's veins.
Nothing happened.
There wasn't a magic flash or a sudden reawakening.
Lee just mumbled a bit and rolled over, tucking herself firmly into the couch.
"S.A.M?" Brooklyn called worridly "S.A.M did it do anything??"
The pause was agonizing.
"The cure seems to be removing the toxins from Master Lee's body, but also seems to be mildly damaging the White Blood cells in her body. She will need to rest a total of- 228 hours and 55 minutes to replenish and recover to efficiency"
Brooklyn sighed heavily, relief flooding her veins.
Mi Dios.
——
Lee's body ached.
Her stomach hurt, her mouth was dry as bone and her head throbbed.
And she was freezing.
She rubbed her eyes, sluggishly going through her mind to figure out what happened.
"Brooklyn, the dead has risen!" The familiar voice of Natalie echoed through the room as she saw the girl near the door, arms crossed and a smug grin as she sat on the coffee table.
"You are, Lee Dormer- And I've waited so long to say this Lee so don't take this lightly- So dumb"
Lee could barely blink in offense, squinting against the light.
"That rich" She mumbled and Brooklyn came into the room carefully.
"Don't tell me you're bickering with her Natalie, she just woke up, at least wait a few hours" Brookly scolded teasingly, swatting at Natalie and she scoffed.
"She poisoned herself i'm entitled to tease her!"
"Still rich" Lee mumbled under her breath, sinking back down in the couch, pulling the blanket up as high as it would go.
"- And I do seem to remember you putting me in charge while you went out to help Matt and Sam"
Lee looked at the smug girl before back at Brooklyn.
"You didn't" She managed and Brooklyn winced, Natalie's smug grin already ticking her off as she stretched, glancing at her watch.
"Another 126 hours Princess, better get used to it"
"I'll try to be quick?" Brooklyn offered and Lee groaned.
"... Fine"
"And do not call me that"
