Because @sinfalling managed to draw forth the muse for Archangel Karter:
I’m gonna talk about the relationship between the Archangels ( specifically KARTER ) and Faith.
Faith plays a PARAMOUNT role in the decision & selection of candidates for Archangel Status. Because Archangels are somewhat unique in that the function more autonomously than MOST of the other cult members, and they deal directly with the family, they must be of a special BREED.
Faith, being the likely to be the BEST judge of character amongst the family, is also the one who tends to be the NOMINATOR for archangel candidacy.
NOW WE MOVE TO KARTER & FAITH.
It’s a very strange bond the Archangels share with Faith, ESPECIALLY in Karter’s case because, while Faith normally plays her role of ‘siren’ when leading potential archangels into the bliss, Karter was a VERY special case because he’s ALLERGIC to Bliss. It causes violent & very devastating reactions in his body. AS A RESULT Faith had to take SPECIAL care of him when guiding him through the bliss.
In addition to that, Faith being a far more EMOTIONALLY, PERSONALITY, & AMICABLY perceptive person with regard to other people reads a lot more into Karter’s behavior than the average person.
IN A SENSE: She understands him in a very unique way that very few people in the cult OR the resistance do. It didn’t take her very long to figure out the nature of John & Karter’s bond ( which is borderline SYMBIOSIS when you get right down to the nitty gritty ) but what makes her relationship with Karter interesting is that she was one of the very few people who was capable of recognizing a side of Karter that not many people do.
HIS FACADE is calm, cold, & calculating. HE’S A PREDATORY HUNTER. He stalks & kills prey for his ‘master’ much like a GUARD DOG would, but Faith was uniquely capable of recognizing all the ‘scars’ that had CAUSED Karter to ‘rot’ from the inside out.
She’s VERY COGNIZANT of him and who he is as a man, and in a lot of ways it has a strong effect on SWAYING Karter, especially because of the fact that Karter never viewed Faith as a truly BAD person. He always viewed her as a person FAR MORE compassionate than most in the cult.
NOW TO BE CLEAR, he wasn’t certain whether that compassion was TRUTHFUL, or if Faith was putting on a show to fill her role, but regardless, that behavior was enough to convince him that she wasn’t exactly LACKING in empathy the way perhaps JOHN & JACOB were in his opinion, and more so FAITH was the first person who recognized that Karter’s devotion to John RAN deeper than simple LOYALTY to a man.
FAITH KNEW KARTER WAS IN LOVE WITH JOHN VERY SHORTLY AFTER BECOMING MORE FORMALLY ACQUAINTED WITH HIM.
