“ Language!
“ I am certain I could help your Sinner’s ears to hear the real message behind it all if you just let me ~
“Oh fuck me, I once listened to one of your sermons. My ears still have cancer from that. Nope, I’d rather go deaf than hear ‘Oh John’ one more time.”
Look who came out of the woodwork, too...
“Hey babe. You approve when I fight fucking druglords, right?”
@takenbythebliss
“No one fucking trusts you anymore, Rachel. Go bury yourself with that.”

“ What’s that? Can’t hear you over the sound of God’s Glory!
Oh Jesus fucking Christ...
“Say, why does God’s Glory sound a lot like tortured screams, illegal weapon trading and property stealing?!”
When the Seeds are still alive and kicking and you are all out of pipe bombs.

@whitetail-wheaty
She was far closer to Prosperity that she should be … well, by the Sinners’ standards. By New Eden’s standards, this county was their home and there were no territory boundaries Edeners couldn’t cross over.
So Carmina waited and watched for a few hours before going home. She done the same at a different location the next night, and the next one after that. Always returning home with a new animal kill or more resources she had stolen from the Highwaymen.
It must have been a week or two into her lone ventures when she spotted him and followed the man for about a mile. Only when she was sure he wasn’t meeting anyone at the small rickety shack they called a bar, did the teenager step out of her cover and approach, squinting at the man and back down at the small polaroid picture she had taken from the bunker Linny had brought her to.
“Wheaty, isn’t it?” She knew that was his name, but other than that Carmina was a little short on ice-breakers for a conversation. “I told you I’d find you if you left that night, didn’t I?”
He had noticed that something... someone was following him. But Wheaty was also aware that there were few people he should fear a run-in with. Most he could handle.
When she finally revealed herself at the Roughneck's Crag though, there was no way he could hide the way his eyes narrowed. Carmina. No weapons in hand this time. But a small polaroid. He had no idea what was depicted on it, but somehow he had an inkling that he would soon find out.
Well.
Her 'mother' had made clear that she would raise hell, if Wheaty dared anything. And with how things currently were between the cult and Prosperity, Wheaty couldn't risk that. As much as he wanted her back, where she belonged. That would kick up a fight.
So he stayed behind the bar, arms supporting him as he leaned on the old wooden plate and looked at her with quite the suspicion.
"You did. And seemingly you also had a little talk with you 'mother'."
He made sure to emphasize that word in tone and raising his eyebrows.
"She still calls me Wheaty? Cute. And what else did she tell you? Want to tell me how wrong I was about your family and how you belong to the Peggies and they all love you?"

she shouldn’t have gone to visit that bunker again. it had been a once-off and a secret between herself and carmina. a fleeting visit to the past to give carmina the answers that eden couldn’t give her - to sate her curiosity and curtail her search for clues about her biological parents.
every step of the way, linny had known that she was making a bad decision, and yet it hadn’t stopped her. she’d had every opportunity to turn around and walk away - especially when she’d found him already at the bunker.
wheaty.
the last time they’d seen each other, they’d near-on come to blows, slinging insults and aiming to hurt the other as deeply as possible. she had attempted to leave the bunker when she’d seen him - she’d made it as far as the entrance ladder before she’d heard him coughing and mumbling deliriously.
so she had stayed. she’d told herself it was just going to be until whoever was hunting with him returned, then she’d leave. but no one came. the hours ticked by and linny sat there by his bedside, trying to bring his temperature down and tend to his fever.
for all the thanks it got her in the end.
holding her hands up, linny stayed where she stood, a few feet away from the edge of his bunk - to be fair, if she woke up to find him standing by her bedside, she’d be a little more than alarmed. hands still held up, the woman back-tracked to the bunk along the opposite wall, to the little nest she’d set up for herself over the last few hours - a blanket sprawled out across the bare mattress and the box of photos she’d shown carmina open next to her.
‘ i found you here. mumbling in your sleep and coughing up a lung … you’re ill. you shouldn’t have been out hunting in your state, let alone without a party or partner. ’
It really was her.
Wheaty squinted at her, watching warily as she came closer - but then stayed on the bunk bed on the other side. She had been around for a while. A whole damn long while, if Wheaty could judge by the way the blankets were roughed up. And that old box of photos...
What the fuck...
Rubbing a hand over his face and picking the wet cloth off of his forehead, Wheaty scrunched his nose at this, before looking to her again.
"We can't afford missing out on hunts currently."
Easy explanation. Well, it gave away that they currently were running low on resources. But she surely would've figured that out herself. She wasn't stupid. And... she somehow cared.
That was weird.
Considering their last run-in...
And yet - of course she cared. Of course she had stayed. There was that little voice in the back of his head, still sounding like a teenager. Of course she had helped him.
"Why did you stay? Few weeks ago you sounded more like you would've pressed a pillow in my face at this chance..."
∗ 74﹕ sender cares for receiver while they’re sick .
Being sick was a luxury in these times. One that they couldn't afford. Wheaty had not minded the various warning signs and still gone out to hunt. They didn't have a choice. Prosperity needed him as hunter. Else he was useless.
Well... he had at least caught some small game. But the rain and cold wind had given him the rest - and Wheaty had sought shelter in some old bunker, hacking up his lung.
He had no clue how long he had fallen asleep on the small bunk bed. He could remember having drifted in and out of awareness. And feeling incredibly hot. He was convinced, though, that he just needed rest...
Until he opened his eyes again and this time, there was someone else in the bunker. Leather. Furs. Peggie.
Wheaty's hand immediately travelled to where usually there was a knife on his belt - but just that movement was enough to make the wet cloth on his forehead almost fall off.
What.
He had definitely not put that there. He had-
Getting himself up on one elbow, squinting; finally he recognized her. Linny.
God fucking damn it. This couldn't be. This really couldn't- what the fuck?! Last time they had almost got at each other's throat because of Carmina. And now this?! Was she kidding him?
"What the hell you doin-"
