Erika on Gather Your Party was talking about being one of just a handful of Japanese kids at her school, which prompted me to look up my old elementary school to see what it looks like these days. It always did have a lot of Asian kids when I was there. The current demographic breakdown: 70% Asian, 17% white, 9% Hispanic (which is definitely a recent uptick), 9% classified as multi-ethnic, and 1% African-American.

No wonder I still look at American media that talks about diversity in casting but has no Asian people in it and I get deeply, viscerally annoyed.
