Could do a sing fic where after watching Ash on tv Lance realizes that there is no way he is going to get Ash back and he realizes that he is stuck in a relationship with Becky that he is secretly not happy with at all. All while Becky seem's like she is completely oblivious but she secretly isn't happy with her relationship with Lance either.
I sure can! Thank you for the prompt!
Becky’s voice is softer than Ash’s and Lance prefers that more. He also likes that Becky doesn’t attempt to steal the mic during every gig and out-sing him. Ash always smelt like regular soup and laundry detergent while Becky smells like strawberries and makes an attempt to cook dinner sometimes.
But… Becky hogs the covers in her sleep, she drinks up the last of the orange juice and she is always forgetting her key. Still, she smells nice and her voice is soft and Ash isn’t an option anymore so Lance sucks it up and deal with the situation.
Ash is…successful now. Happy too. She didn’t need Lance like he thought she always did. She is a kick ass musician without him and the whole city knows that now.
Whenever she’s on TV, Lance makes fun of her with Becky.
“What is she even wearing?”
“Yeah, hah, like a potato sack or something.”
“Her guitar isn’t tuned properly.”
Lance doesn’t point out that Becky doesn’t play the guitar and doesn’t know the first thing about tuning them, but nods anyway. “Yeah, and her lyrics are stupid, right?”
Becky leans into him and the heavy scent of strawberries makes it a little hard to breathe. She watches Ash sing and mocks her while Lance stays silent for the most of it.
Ash looks older now, her voice sweet and harmonic. She has ditched her black shirt and pants for a dark dress that clashes with her leather boots, but still looks amazing on stage. She finishes to a standing ovation, something Lance is familiar with only in his dreams, and Ash curtsies in a way that was oddly cute after her rock song.
Becky continues to watch the rest of the performers and Lance can’t exactly argue with her over her own television. He lives in Becky’s place now with frilly curtains and too many pillows everywhere. It’s so different from his old apartment, the one he shared with Ash and they decorated together. Lance misses the neutral wallpaper coloring, the open kitchen that was filled with his favorite junk food and being able to eat on the couch instead of always sitting in the dining room. He misses how their apartment was always a little too warm and how it always smelt like pizza.
But he’s…content here. Becky is great(ish). She cuddles him and shares a colorful blanket with Lance, but keeps most of it on her side. Everything is nice, they have steady, low-paying gigs and Becky can kind of cook. It could be worse than this.
Briefly, Lance wonders if Becky is happy with him. She doesn’t always smile like she did at first and pulls away from his kisses, sometimes she squeezes his hand too tightly.
He shrugs and decides if Becky isn’t saying anything about it, neither will Lance. It’s really not all that important to him if Becky is happy - that’s not his job.
Still, he kisses her head through the too-strong scent of strawberries. Maybe he took Ash and their life for granite, but he was okay here. He had to be.
I didn’t really have a plot for this, it came out as a drabble more than anything of Lance just thinking. I might revisit this idea in the future if people enjoyed this. I hope you like it!
