so basically yeah. today marks two years since i first posted about them
i'm gonna count that as their birthday, even though there's a lot of different ways you could slice it. especially since i came up with the concept before the character. (shout out to some random unfinished tumblr draft from january 2024 where the last sentence mentions a 'space iterator concept' but is cut off in such a way that you can tell i stopped writing the draft to go think about said concept, that's the first recorded mention i have anywhere in any capacity)
self-reflecting ramblings under the cut
looking back, i've definitely come a very long way art-wise. not to say that there's not a long long way i can go, but at the time it was practically my first time actually seriously sitting down and drawing something at a computer with the goal of showing it to strangers on the internet.
and it's been pretty cool, i guess. it's given me something to do at a time when i don't feel like i have a lot of direction otherwise
but at the same time, i do wish i had a little more to show for two whole years. there's so much i want to do with them and i've done barely any of it... such as it goes, i guess...
i do have a few things i've been working on though. might even post one later today! (hopefully!)
part of that might just be down to more characterization. she's just a alot more 'present' in the game than the others, plot wise but also every single MOD description seems to have been written by her
but even just from the demo and trailers i liked her so i think it's more than just that
as a person she kinda sucks but honestly god forbid women do anything. (she wouldn't be nearly as interesting if she didn't suck)
now i don't quite have the full shape of her actions before the events of the game. but i do get the impression that much of what she does is genuinely rooted in doing good for the Vessel (use of energy shards seems to be due to her innovations, and almost every unit bears hallmarks of her design. even the messed up unethical experiments she was doing down in the lab seem to have the goal of sustainability for the Vessel). however she's prideful and paranoid and refuses to accept any help.
she can do it herself. she HAS to do it herself. there's nobody else she can trust to do it. her way is the right way. nobody else can be trusted to do it the right way.
but deep down she's also a little bit of a nerd. i like to think those easter eggs in halyn's boudoir are actually references in-universe -- she builds replicas of stuff from old earth video games, and makes a range of earth animal themed modifiers (talking about how cool they are in the metadata). she didn't have to do anra the way she did but she thought it would be sick af (and she was right) (well it was also to make a point of asserting her authority by taking the depiction of a Traveller but yknow)
and i've been thinking about some ideas and wanted to see if anyone is interested
what would you be interested in?

regarding #2 -- i've never recorded a playthough so there would be a learning curve. i know i wouldn't do a facecam or audio commentary (but i could do commentary in form of on-screen text?)
"Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly."
okay. but the corollary to that is that, for some reason, people spreading a post any way besides quietly does cause your post to lose notes. in what world does that make any sense?
it polarizes users to either obnoxiously talk over people or say nothing at all, when the ideal situation is obviously somewhere in the middle.
they've acknowledged the negative feedback and now they're trying to pretend that means the ball is in our court. i'm not seeing what the point of them 'continuing to monitor' anything is, i think people have been pretty clear. now it's their job to fucking do something about it.
what this means for us is that we need to keep up the pressure. 'continuing to monitor' reads as 'if y'all aren't still complaining about this tomorrow we'll just go ahead and ignore you'.
make your feedback known on the original post, especially if you haven't already. i'm also still gonna recommend submitting in the support/feedback line, even though the auto-reply directs you back to @changes. keep at them
same area but earlier in the video... that's a REALLY BIG hand
They definitely belong to the Hand Pearl, the red color being characteristic. But this area itself doesn't really look like the parts of the Hand's domain we've seen so far, with the Gloom pooling at the bottom, and the overall color looks more like the Dwellings. It must be along the top border, and the hole on the left leads further down into Hand territory proper.
The hands we see elsewhere are also attached to arms. Are these some sort of remote-control variant? Maybe they were infected and were cut off to keep it from spreading?
Anyways, I also just barely noticed Scraplings' appendages are actually single fingers attached to their back. I wonder if it was Mel or the Hand who did that, and which part came first. Is a Scrapling a unit with a finger added to its back, or is it a severed finger given a more standard frame so it can move on its own?
