Throwback to April 1st. When Little P was still having outdoor time. He enjoyed stamping on the drain covers. Donna enjoyed a butt rub while we all waited for Little P to be done. Because of #followthechild we tend to spend more time outside (when we were able to) while walking the dog, because Little P enjoyed it so much. Everyday was an adventure. Haul fallen branches, run up and down slopes, look at ants and pick up all sorts of trash left by people in the park 🤦‍♀️ Poor Donna and I ended up loitering around waiting for him instead usually. 😝 So it appeared our dog was walking the child rather than we were walking the dog. Lol. That said, I enjoy observing him and what he gets up to for the day outside. It's all child directed, except when we need to stop him from killing himself. Typing this, I start to wonder how involved other parents get when their kids play outdoors. Do you mostly stay back and observe unless they are trying to put themselves in danger? Or do you have specific activities they get directed to do outside? This calls to mind @forestmontessori 's post about having her child do throwing activities outside so the child becomes more focused on other activities indoors. Also thank you to those of you who responded to my query about at what point you will feel unsafe to go out. While some of you responded that walking the dog while keeping socially distanced is safe where you are, I also received more urgent responses not to take the situation lightly such as, "The day we left France there were 9000 cases. Less than a week later there were 90,000." And also, "South Africa is under complete lockdown. We can only buy groceries. We are not allowed to walk the dog." As we start to see x2 jumps in local cases, Little P has been grounded and not allowed out the house since 2 days ago. I am still taking donna out for walks. This morning's walk was an experiment in treating all humans outside like zombies. Lol. And it is not easy to 100% keep a distance of 2m or more away from people and 10m from runners when there are so many still out and about on the foot paths. The walk took longer than usual because e.g. I was waiting for people to get clear of the staircase but it never got cleared so in the end we took a longer route to the park. And then it became clear that with so many unmasked runners in our small park nearby, keeping 10m away from them was just going to be troublesome. So I gave up going to the park. Lol. I think we will cut back on the walks in some way. It is better to be safe than sorry. Stay safe.
