i've vacillated for a month and a half....... and i think i just need to rip off the bandaid. agonizing even as i send this but. two muses is really where i should be. the lilac boy. he's gotta go. this is rai, handing in my resignation on yuri. :pensive: :fist:

if you play original muses with canon roots ( like oc siblings, coworkers, etc. ) or someone who’s been either just a name or a few lines of dialogue in canon, how do you build that character? do you pick the muse first and build from there, or do you need have the muse ready in your head and only then pick the connection, or a combination of the two?

I’ve never RP’d an original muse that had a connection to canon, it’s always been either straight up OCs or straight up canon characters. But I love making little OCs to fill in the gaps of my muse’s lives, especially when it comes to characters that were supposed to have a Whole Life before the game that never gets brought up. I almost always start off with the role they play in my muse’s life, and then I decide what kind of person they would have to be to get into that situation. It’s not really a perfect system since they have like, 0 personality, but since I don’t RP them usually it suits my needs just fine.

Also, I’m answering your heart ask here since it fits with this ask: for current OCs, two of them are Firuzeh and Farnah, Nader’s two kids and Claude’s closest friends growing up. Their personalities are basically nonexistant, but you don’t need a personality to be my baby...

Firuzeh (meaning triumph) was Claude’s lady-in-waiting when he was younger. She’s maybe 3-4 years older so she was kind of like an older sister for him. I still have to figure out the Everything behind that 1175 assassination attempt, but I do know at least that she was in Claude’s bedroom and they were getting ready for bed when the sons of rival noble families invaded to capture Claude. Firuzeh tried to fight them off but was ultimately overwhelmed, and she was left with a glasgow smile for the trouble. I imagine that Claude also got scarred in some way during that incident, but it healed well over the years and was permanently removed with some simple healing magic. The idea of losing a scar as if it never happened really freaked him out, and he does feel bad that he was able to get it removed while Firuzeh has to live with the scar. She’s come to accept it though. Anyone who gets scared off by a woman with a scar isn’t worth wasting time on, anyways. 

@chasinglosses come get your girl i’ll leave her personality up to you. But anyways, she came up because I wanted Claude to have someone to come back to in Almyra besides his parents, and nothing makes me tender like childhood friendships.

Farnah (meaning glory) is 6-8 years older than Claude and Firuzeh’s older brother (tho I’ve been debating switching their ages). I first imagined him as the Almyran general that visits Garreg Mach during the Arcadia event. He’s sort of an emissary, on his way towards becoming a diplomat since he’s pretty affable and relaxed, and is fluent in Fódlan’s language. Being older and a family friend, he’s not above ignoring rank and messing with Claude. I tried to write a drabble between him and Claude but Alas... here is the only part that matters.

“You’re here because of something happening in Almyra, right?” Farnah pauses, but continues as though he hasn’t. Claude presses his lips flat, “As the prince–”

“I am not speaking to the prince, especially not one who spurns the title only to make use of it when it suits him. I am only speaking to the lord of the Yellow Deer.”

Claude huffs. “House leader of the Golden Deer.”

Finally Farnah looks up and looks at Claude, really looks, and his eyes land on the cape draped over his shoulders. “.”

Have you heard that Claude had a huge crush on him as a kid... No but, he mostly arose because I wanted the Almyra diplomat to have a Life and a Story, and I ended up pairing him together with Firuzeh as siblings, and here we are!

There was so much going on...everyone was every where and everyone was loud. Bernie had managed good so far. She hadn’t caused a scene. No one was staring at her yet. Nothing had happened that her father would call her a worthless waste of an heir for yet...Bernie thought she was doing pretty okay!

But making sure that everything was going perfect and wonderful was exhausting. Stress took a lot out of Bernie on the daily, the combination of stress and not doing awful was even more draining. 

Bernie tiptoed around the edge of the crowds, keeping out of everyone’s ways and sights. She almost felt like she needed a nap. But she definitely was not allowed to leave this early, and she couldn’t just sleep her like Linhardt...

A familiar shade of lilac caught her attention. Bernie blinked. Yuri stood with her back to her, talking to someone about something, smiling and laughing...a strange bang of nostalgia struck a cord in her chest that she quickly grabbed and stilled. Yuri didn’t want to see her. Yuri hated her. No matter how he acted in class, Bernie had ruined his life and nearly gotten him killed and he didn’t want to be near her no matter what Bernie thought and

Whoever Yuri was talking to drifted away. Before he could drift too far from the fringes of the event too, Bernie grabbed onto his sleeve and rested her forehead against her back. “I’m sorry...” she warbled, her voice shaking with the sobs to match the tears springing in her eyes. “I’m just...I just need a second. I’m sorry!”

“H-hey, hang on! Who are you? You can’t go there, stop!”

In retrospect, perhaps Bernie should have listened better rather than continue running.

She was bent over, hands on her knees as she struggled to catch her breath. There had been so many eyes on her, so many people...she’d just wanted to get away. But they’d been in the way of her room, so she’d just taken off running in the other direction. She’d run and run, until she lost track of where she was going and kept running and...now she wasn’t quite sure where she was.

Bernadetta straightened up and looked around. It was dark, wherever it was she’d ended up. Was she...inside? It was hard to tell. There were no windows, just a long corridor with torches to keep the shadows at bay. Even that didn’t do a very good job though. Bernadetta had to squint to see, and she still couldn’t see that much.

“Oh Bernie...what have you done now?” She turned and looked back the way she’d come...or at least she thought she’d come from that way. It looked much the same as in front of her and she couldn’t see anything else either...

“O-okay...so you’re lost. That’s fine. A-at least it’s quiet here...and there’s no one here!” Slowly, Bernadetta started to move forward. She couldn’t here the...guard? Gatekeeper? Who’d yelled at her to stop anymore, but there had to be people somewhere, right? She couldn’t have gotten that far in...wherever she was.

that little dash of green darting around the ballroom is a familiar sight, and even from a distance, it's easy to see the way her face lights up, child-like, at every new vision. ❝ easy there, the night's barely gotten started, ❞ he says, approaching with a smile. ❝ don't burn yourself out too early, hummingbird. ❞ someone like her, in a place like this... he supposes he won't think about it too much tonight. ❝ even you're playing the game? ❞ he notes at the card in her hand. ❝ need a stamp? ❞

Nino was getting perhaps a bit too excited now that she had gotten invigorated with the ball, zipping around at every moment and asking familiar faces if they’d give her a stamp. At one point, she had almost tripped over, and a few times she had gotten weird looks due to her not realizing that she wasn’t wearing anything fancy and still had her hair all slightly scruffy. It wasn’t that she didn’t try, she just... hadn’t ever gone to a dance. Even her energy and lack of formality was a bit jarring.

A familiar voice got her to calm down a little bit though, prompting a nervous giggle from her; the giggle quickly turned joyful at the little nickname. “Sorry...! I’ve just never been to a ball before...! There’s so many people, it’s just like what I’ve been reading in those storybooks!” Storybooks. A pastime she had picked up now that she had learned how to read; she had taken to reading herself a chapter out loud before bed of simple little tales. The only downside was that it was late, and it was difficult for her to muster up the courage to go to someone’s room at midnight fifteen times in a row asking if she was saying ‘appropriate’ correctly.

“Oh! Yes!” Nino had almost forgotten to ask in her slight embarrassment, but she was thankful that it wasn’t necessary. She held out her card with a smile. “Do you need a stamp too? You seem like you’d be a great dancer!” Nino’s smile widened at the thought of Yuri dancing so gracefully while trying not to think of herself falling flat on her butt after doing one twirl.

amidst the flash of jewelry, whirling laughter, and high spirits, a modest shadow of mottled browns stands against the wall, easily overlooked. it's still a surprise how aelfric folds away, forgotten, here, when it's practically a festival every time he comes down to abyss. ❝ so you came in the end after all, ❞ he remarks, then sighs as he looks the cardinal over. ❝ you're really not trying to impress anyone, huh. ❞ he sets aside his drink, extends his card. ❝ well, let's make this quick. ❞

With a good-natured laugh, Aelfric looks down and plucks at his robes - the very same he wears nearly every day around the monastery, clean and ironed but so plain compared to all the finery and gold that fills the reception hall now.

“The days when I had any reason to impress anyone are long-gone, I’m afraid,” he answers, though the humor loses its momentum and dissipates into a sigh. Gently inquiring eyes turn instead to the uniform Yuri has chosen to wear, all the more vibrant beside his own monochromatic attire.

“Besides, this evening is for you and all of the other students. What good would it do for a humble monk like me to steal away some of your spotlight?” His voice is still warm and the lines around his eyes testament to his geniality, despite the wistful melancholy that he wears like his usual robes.

“You make this sound like such a chore,” Aelfric teases as he takes Yuri’s card, adds his stamp, and returns it. “Try to have a little fun. But please, Yuri--” the laughter fades abruptly to quiet sobriety “--stay out of trouble tonight.”

This is not an unfamiliar scene. The darkness lurking at the edge of candlelight has become something of a second home, the place where work is done. A space near enough to the light that prey do not yet raise their guard. The plane of nightmares.

The smile that turns to him, however, undermines the scene. A defense, but not one born from fear. Hubert has seen plenty of nervous smiles. This one is... comfortable.

"Nothing in particular," he says to Yuri's question, matching impassivity with nonchalance. Emotion is dangerous here, like blood in water.

Echoes from the high stone walls follow his heels closer.

"An idle curiosity for why one as popular as yourself would be slinking away from the party. A private rendezvous, perhaps?"

His words prod like a taunt, the juvenile kind children stick each other with when romance first enters the picture, to denigrate their friends for their crushes. To disparage a newfound weakness. Hubert sneers, but icy, probing eyes search for something deeper than flustered denial. A crack in a facade, a glimpse behind a mask. A shadow.

"Lady Edelgard has told me of her acquaintance with you," he continues. "I hear that you're as popular below ground as above. I imagine a grand event like this one would provide an opportune time to network."

Oooooof please don’t bring up my Forbidden Middle School Memories™

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway, my first ever novel idea was about these two kids who travel to an island that’s full of dragons and unicorns. (You can say DragonTales it’s okay). 

I literally remember no other characters besides the main dragon, a green boi creatively named Emrelhelm. He was a young boi desperate to overthrow the Evil Magic Wizard™ terrorizing his island. 

It was.....pretty basic as far as plots go. His best friend was a unicorn and the two kids somehow traveled there and befriended Emrelhelm who had to overcome his fear of humans...idk man seven year old me had ideas lol
