I hate having to read SnB at work. Putting aside the deaths of 3 of my most beloved Magi characters (I already cried a lot tbh), we got this moment, which was amazing and beautiful and perfect.
Just picture Sinbad entering that place and seeing the bodies of Shaka, Vittel and Mahad. The shock it must have been after Mystras’s death.....
and then realizing Ja’far had to be there too.
Now, Sinbad has already gone through Ja’far possibly being death and we all remember how much he lost it back then. So he’s also reliving an old trauma, except this time Ja’far might actually be death.Three of his friends died so, why wouldn’t Ja’far be dead too?
Imagine Sinbad slowly checking if Ja’far’s heart is still beating, being so terrified. And then realizing he’s still alive. *sigh*
No wonder why Sinbad wanted to be the one carrying him, even tho Hinahoho and Pipirika, who are much stronger than him, were there too.
I especially love that panel in which just the two of them are shown. Ja’far waking up and realizing he’s being carried gently by Sin.
Sin is handling him so dearly >+o.
Is he carrying him cause he was so scared to lose him? Because he wanted Ja’far to be close to him so he’s sure he’s ok, to protect him. Did Sin want Ja’far to wake up and see him first, so he isn’t scared? Did he want to comfort him?
Is Sin ashamed of not being there with him, so he didn’t want to look at Ja’far thus he offered him his back to cry instead?
This is the intimate physical contact I wanted them to have since long ago!! They are so close together. I bet Sin can feel Ja’far’s heart beating fast and his warm tears and his hands holding onto him. The moment is just so intimate. I bet Ja’far feels comfortable on Sin’s back, all warm, covered in Sin’s scent too >+o
This is yet another big slap in the faces of everyone who claims Sinbad never cared about Ja’far. I hope the manga keeps proving them wrong as it continues.
^ I love this panel because it shows how close they are
^Ja’far trembling as he tells Sin about Vittel and Mahad.
^In this one it looks like Ja’far’s arms are hugging Sin’s neck as he cries??
Anyway, bazillion of headcanons can come out of this ♥ You bet Imma draw a lot of this too. I just can’t believe this finally happened.....
Thanks so much Ohtera-sensei ♥♥♥
Hi dear people, I actually wanted to write a very detailed meta thingy about Magi 320 but I don’t have the time. So, I’m just gonna focus on 2 things.
First is this detail here:
I like the panel showing the night sky....I guess it’s to show us it’s late. Ja’far’s comment also confirms it.
....So, The implied info here (according to me) are the following points:
Sinbad’s office is probably connected to his bedroom: Since apparently Ja’far didn’t expect him to be getting dressed in the middle of the night (well it would be uncommon for everyone to find someone getting dressed when the working hours are over), maybe Sin works in his office with night clothing when he has to or more probably, Ja’far expected to find him in his bedroom, in bed, since it’s the same day Sinbad fainted at the International Alliance meeting. Instead he found him getting dressed in his office.
Also, who finishes getting dressed in their office? Maybe his bedroom is in the next room and he just finished getting dressed in there as he walked towards it.
Ja’far goes into Sinbad’s room/office in the middle of the night like it’s nothing: Even tho last arc has proved us several times that sinja’s intimacy has suffered a great blow, the fact that Ja’far can come into Sin’s office without being announced and that he actually didn’t expected him to be dressed up or probably even there, shows that Ja’far is used to find Sinbad in his office or in his room late at night ....... Yes, Ikr? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Also maybe Ja’far doesn’t usually find Sinbad in his uniform when it’s that late............ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
These 2 panels are probably the ones that made me most happy about Magi 320 tbh, for those 2 reasons. I’m happy Sinbad didn’t reject Ja’far as much as to not allow him to come into his room late at night ♥. Or the fact that it isn’t awkward at all, but as common as always.
Relationship types:
Now let’s focus on the second important point of this silly post:
Three relationships that describe sinja’s relationship are mentioned briefly or come into discussion in an indirect way during this chapter. This may mean nothing to the chapter overall but it matters to me as someone who headcanons sinja as a relationship that engloves different and variated love types.
The first one actually includes all generals:
Let’s remember that this is the last chapter in which Sin is convinced he’s doing this to save everyone. In this panel he’s moved by the thought of his own family, which also was a lesson he learnt from his father long ago. Sinbad doesn't have a family anymore tho, only the one he has formed through friendship and not through blood connections. Those family members are the 8 generals.
It is a given that the 8 gens are his family and that he deeply cares about them but seeing it here, confirmed, has a total different impact than only assuming it.
Ja’far is included there ofc, so it means family love is included in sinja’s multiple relationship types (I’m not gonna use words like agape, eros and those because I don’t have time to actually inform myself about them in a deeper level, so I’m just gonna give general definitions we all should be capable to understand).
So let’s go to the second one:
Ja’far calls him “my lord” here. And thus I’ll be addressing their master-servant relationship.
Probably the most unrelatable relationship, at least in our present. A master-servant relationship in anime and manga is usually represented by the following sentiments: loyalty, trust and gratitude. Loyalty (+admiration) being the feeling that moves a servant, gratitude (which leads to rewards) the one that moves the master and trust which exists between the two of them. We are talking about a positive relationship ofc.
Ja’far’s loyalty is strong as it’s constantly mentioned in Magi’s encyclopedia and in every piece of information about him. His loyalty is actually moved by great love towards his master. It is funny tho that in the panel above he’s using it to manipulate Sinbad a little, which is uncommon for Ja’far.
Just before they started talking he was calling him “president” since that’s the new title sinbad holds, but as soon as Sinbad confesses to Ja’far what his actual plans are, Ja’far is so disappointed he switches to call him “my lord”, however he adds that he is pathetic and weak. As in: I can’t believe “MY LORD” who is someone amazing to me was actually this pathetic. The phrase itself is made so it hurts Sinbad’s pride as a good master, especially since it comes from his closest servant. Very manipulative, since after all Ja’far’s opinion matters a lot to Sinbad.
There’s however another point about this which also makes sinja’s master-servant relationship a weird one.
Even tho those types of relationships have some distance in between, brought by respect, in their case, respect is broken several times. Since they insult each other or hit each other, when they lose composture, like in this case. Ja’far loses it, he even drops the “president” title, but he calls him his lord , then says he’s weak and pathetic and an idiot. He starts also getting red. He will soon start to scream with watery eyes, so much he’ll become tired. Sinbad’s reaction shows surprise, tho he manages to not lose composture unlike Ja’far.
A very emotional and intimate moment if you ask me, very uncommon for people who are only master and a servant, but well sinja are obviously much more.
To sum up what I mean by this is, there’s a canon master-servant in sinja’s relationship that brings several good sentiments between them. However the distance brought by the respect that comes with this type of relaitonship, is broken whenever the farse of their titles is broken, which happens every time any of the two of them make a big mistake or make each other angry. And when respect is broken they can’t help showing how intimate they actually are by insulting each other, like family and friends.
Before I finish this point I want to add, that more than a servant, Ja’far is a right hand man.
There is a small difference imo. A normal servant is a little more detached from his master’s cause and the rewards they get are whatever is most convenient to them.
But since Ja’far is someone who lacks personal ambitions (like Ohtaka pointed out in a BS) he’s more compromised with Sinbad’s dream, which he actually made his own.
His reward is making the dream become a reality, because he is as involved as his master is. The metaphor of being a right-hand-man comes from the idea of the right hand being people’s main tool which helps achieving pretty much everything, it’s also a part of the body, not a separated entity.
The right hand man motive it’s all over Magi, but I think Sinbad and Ja’far make it justice the most.
And well this last one plus the extra commentary is an obvious one: Their friendship. I’m especially really happy about the “deep bonds” part :3c.
Deep bonds......................deep bonds......... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
To be frank I have nothing to say about their friendship. When there’s mutual respect, trust and intimacy, there’s also friendship. And when a friend becomes family, they are still a friend. We all know what a friend is so I’m not gonna go on details on that one. The only thing I want to say is that their friendship is a fact.
So, Sinbad listens and is moved by Ja’far but he realizes he still wants to go to the sacred palace (even tho he finds it weird himself), so he decides to lie and pretend he agrees...heartbreaking.
But then again, even that annoying commentator is surprised Sinbad goes against Ja’far’s wishes.
As I love to point out all the time Ja’far is Sinbad’s closest family member/friend/vasaal. Ja’far matters a lot to him. So after finding himself still going to the sacred palace, even after having talked to Ja’far, he had to think things over (thinking that is done in the following chapter).
Even tho this was too little for my hungry self, the fact Ja’far was the last one Sinbad had to confront to realize he was not doing it for his family, already means a lot. He was the last one he said goodbye to too.
I dare to say as well that in the most heterosexual way possible cause we can’t have canon sinja, Ohtaka may be implying Ja’far is Sinbad’s most important person and therefore he’s the last one he faces before quiting his old life and self. At least I take it this way.
And that should be it.
Magi 320 was wonderful and it can be read in so many ways!!!
Even tho we didn’t have the conclusion of this important subplot, there are several details mentioned here that suggest interesting facts. Therefore I’m somewhat satisfied.....
Still there is hope that we find out more in Sinbad no Bouken and in the extra material that will come after Magi. Hopefully Ohtaka will also use her wordpress soon.
I’m very happy I finally have this clear file with this adorable pic where I can see Ja’far’s legs ♥♥♥!!
But do you know what’s my fave part of it?
Aladdin is getting his turban out so it flies like a magic carpet and saves Mor, Alibaba and Haku!
But then we also have Sin and Ja’far falling. Sin can fly, but Ja’far can’t so......who’s gonna help Ja’far fly/land safely???? (♥ω♥ ) ~♪
I have an adorable pic in my head of Foca!Sin grabbing Ja’far’s waist and helping him fly (*´▽`*)!! So beautiful!
But like I’m serious, Aladdin’s turban only covers the 4 of them, composition-wise it means it’s only for them and leaves Sin and Ja’far on their own!
I swear, this looks on purpose ♥
Well, now you know why I like this pic :3
I’m just so happy that they share so many panels and react together a lot and even tho the age and height difference look big at this time of their lives, they still look like a married couple. LOOK how proud they are of Myspipi. I mean, yes, Mystras and Pipirika are older than Ja’far and have Sin’s same age, but they still are the leaders of the company and the family. They look like a proud mom and dad *sobs*.
And this: “shhh babe, later pls.” They aren’t even talking, they look at each other and that’s all. So married. Also Sin should have told him earlier so they discussed it first, I’m happy Ja’far protests, he has to tell him stuff like this, it’s important. Even Barbarossa agrees.
Look at Ja’far expression and Sin’s nervousness. By the looks of it he hid it on purpose but also was ok with Ja’far finding out later, but forgot it could happen during the party, oh silly Sin. Now his naggy wife will lecture him. Actually he probably didn’t because after their visit to future Sindria, Sin looks ill and Ja’far tells him to rest and then he goes to the land alone and we know what happens next.
Oh it was so fun while it lasted.
Sinja in a fancy party, sinja visiting future Sindria for the first time, Ja’far protecting Sin from Seren and sending him to bed, both of them wandering alone while thinking about each other’s reactions and then *sigh*
Oh well, I hope we get stuff like this before the tragedy too.
The following text is about all the moments Ja’far has expressed an opinion/done something about Sinbad’s appearance.
First of all isn’t it weird that we can talk about something like this? Sinja’s relationship has so much detail something as specific as this can be discussed, so let’s talk about this.
Ja’far does not only seem to care about Sin’s looks as an advisor looking out for his king’s appearance, he also has expressed in a very clear way that he finds Sin attractive. He also is directly and actively involved with the maintenance of his appearance.
It suits you
This is form chapter 84, it’s the first time Ja’far talks about Sin’s looks. Sinbad was seen without his jacket-thing in previous chapters, after he came back alive from slavery. The fact Sin is wearing his jacket again doesn’t only objectically improve his appearace, it’s a symbolism about his recovery, about his survival. Ja’far is talking about the jacket looking good on him like always but he is expressing his happiness about having the old Sin back. I really like this moment, it seems insignificant but it’s powerful.
No, not you

This one is crackish (it’s chapter 120′s choitashi) but at the same time it says a lot.
Finding someone attractive depends of the eye of the beholder. Ja’far has never expressed himself about anyone else’s appearance as he does here with Sin’s. The joke is they are looking for more money to make up for the company’s expenses, thus Ja’far asks Sin to strip so they can make money out of that fanservice. Sin doesn’t want to cause it’s cold, so Mystras offers himself instead. However Ja’far bluntly rejects him, saying he’s fine like that.
So, if Sin strips he’s attractive and they can make money, but according to Ja’far Mystras isn’t (even tho for us many fans Mystras is obviously attractive).
The situation is clear: Ja’far finds Sin attractive but not Mystras. It’s so funny but also cute. It’s also the only time Ja’far has expressed himself about finding people attractive.
Please shave
This one is a small drawing in between Snb’s 7th volume. It’s a moment before Sinbad goes to see Mira to get his metal vessels back. They just made it out the chasm. Ja’far asks Sin to care more about his appearance and wants him to shave his stubble (or something like that, can’t find the post). Sin is saying something like: Really? Doesn’t it look good? Isn’t it cool?
Ja’far might be just worried about his master not looking clean, I’m sure Rurumu must have taught him a stubble doesn’t look good or maybe it’s his own opinion (?). Anyway, it’s adorable. Ja’far must have shaved him, since they don’t have any mirrors near them (btw I was planning to draw that soon).
And so, Ja’far thinks a stubble is inappropiate/looks bad/ruins Sin’s looks therefore he’s shaving him. And even if Sin doesn’t want his stubble to be gone he still listens to Ja’far.
[scan, typesetting and translation by @naoscifra and @arashidono]
This one is my absolute favorite. They have been working none-stop and they smell, they literally smelled each other, ...that intimacy...That “we should take a bath (together)” and then the maids getting their hairs done. Them, together, getting ready for the day, side by side, instead of each one in their own rooms. It really looks like they bathed together.
Sinbad is the king and Ja’far is his advisor but they are both being fixed in the same room sitting next to each other. They look like a couple of kings tbh.
And the stubble again. This time he even gave Sin a percentage of how much it ruins his looks. The “appeal” of the high king of the seven seas. It’s Ja’far’s specific opinion about Sin’s appeal.
Sin is used to it, he’s just affected about how high the percentage is.
The funny part is that after this the two of them shave their own eyebrows out of sleep depriveness. It’s like Ja’far really doesn’t like his stubble, he’s even fine with Sin without eyebrows but not the stubble.
Sewing, washing and organizing
In the CD drama: Listen, Aladdin-kun, some pieces of information about Ja’far are given. One of them is the fact that Ja’far is good at sewing clothes, he’s very skilled and gets the job done really fast. He also reveals he used to sew human insides...lol.
He is sewing Alibaba’s clothes but is complaining to Aladdin that Sin is a brute and that he has to sew his clothes oftenly when he ruins them and wash them when they get dirty.
I’m sure they have enough servants to do such jobs even when they travel, but Ja’far still do them for him. I’m sure he does because he wants to, but also because he cares too much about it and can’t leave it to anyone else.
Maybe they also don’t want the royalty life to get to their heads ooor maybe they are used to Ja’far doing it since a long time ago and don’t want it to change.
Ja’far is also very attentive about Sin, therefore he might be the only one that notices things like his clothes getting dirty or ripped.
Apparently he also organizes Sin’s clothing, since he put his clothes somewhere and Sin couldn’t find them.
I hope that the manga jokes about stuff like this in the future.
So Ja’far is directly involved with keeping Sin’s good looks even to the point of washing his clothes and sewing them when they are in adventures together. I’m sure it’s annoying for him but he also wants to be in charge of it. He’s such a good wife.
And this are the ones I could remember. If you remember more, you are free to add them here or send me an ask ♥.
What to say about this, I’m happy Ja’far is so directly involved with Sin’s appearance as his advisor but also as himself and that he has personal opinions about it. I love that it’s so clear he finds him attractive and wants to keep him that way. The real question is: is he aware he finds him attractive? :3c Has he given that a thought? Knowing him possibly not, he’s too focused on other things.
Wasn’t it cute that both Sin and Ja’far considered each other’s feelings before doing their own thing?
Sin considered what Ja’far would say if he went to see the island on his own, but he was so excited he couldn’t help it....I’m sure it’s more than clear he deeply regrets it now.
And Ja’far considered Sin’s condition before leaving him alone, thinking that everything was gonna be ok....
Yes, both of them committed a mistake, but at least the two of them are in the point in which they consider each others’ thoughts, reactions and conditions before acting. They are already so important to each other...*sheds a tear*
Back then I forgot to comment how awesome was that Ja’far protected Sinbad from Seren in chapter 134. He gave her a really serious gaze and chased her away, even if he didn’t realize it. She must have understood she wouldn’t be able to do her will with Ja’far there.
And when Sin returned to his senses and seemed to be not well, he changed his serious face to a worried one.
Why is he such a good boy?
Tbh this is why Ja’far should be with him always, he does protect him all the time.
Random, but soloshe and sinja besides being similar in their endings as couples.....they are also really similar from the beginning! Like how Solomon saved Sheba (Sin also saved Ja'far). How both Sheba and Ja'far had bad attitudes until they met them and changed. How both Solomon and Sin viewed Sheba and Ja'far as kids until some years passed. How both Sheba and Ja'far are unconditional to them and never stopped believing.
...Even in the moment Solomon and Sinbad saved sheba and ja'far they both were firmly holding their arms...
