The forest around him was as beautiful as he remembered it. Just like centuries ago.
Hesitantly, King took a step, then another, and slowly he was walking around the trees, taking in all of his surroundings.
There was no doubt, it was exactly like the forest in his memories… Or at least it would be, if he could just find someone. For a reason he couldn’t understand, it was oddly void of all life. There were no fairies nor wildlife in sight. It was unsettling, and he didn’t like it one bit.
For a time that felt eternal, he kept walking, looking for someone, anyone, but no matter how far he went, the forest was still silent, almost dead.
There was one place he still had to check.
The closer he got, the faster his heartbeat got. King wasn’t sure of this, but his body was almost moving on its own. He had to go there.
It only took a few minutes to reach the pond with the Fountain of Youth, but it felt like ages. He wasn’t alone.
“… Ban…?” sure enough, the man was there, his back facing the fairy, as if he was hiding something. “… What.. what are you doing here..?” something wasn’t right.
When he decided to get closer to the Sin to figure out just what the fuck was going on, everything changed.
The fire was spreading, the plants were withering and burning, the forest itself was dying.
The Fountain of Youth was completely drained, not a single drop left.
The fairy King could only observe as he once again failed to protect everything.
Everything was silent as he stared at his sister’s bloody. motionless face, Ban looking down on him with a twisted grin that didn’t belong to him.
His heart skipped a beat, his body numb and his eyes wide, not being able to take his gaze away from the corpse. This had to be a nightmare, this couldn’t be real- But it was very real.
Shaking, the fairy glared at the human, his vision blurry through the tears, ignoring the trees burning and falling down and the flames turning everything into ashes. It didn’t matter. Nothing of that mattered now.
“Why… Why did you do that..!” King yelled at the man, his voice threatening to break at the end.
A moment of silence, and when no answer came, he snapped.
His home, the Fountain, his friends, his sister- If he couldn’t protect them, he would avenge them. Even if he had to give up his own life for it.
Ban was stronger than him. Too strong for him.
One hand was more than enough for him to overpower the fairy. Almost effortlessly, the man slammed him into the ground, and bringing a hand to his neck-
