    “...”  Lakshmibai was quiet following the explanation of what his plan. It was so strange to her --- Ruler was a soft-spoken man. Gentle. He had charisma and had clearly tricked many people into going along with his plan without them even realizing what it was. Ruler did not ask for permission to do what he saw fit; he was already doing it. Lakshmibai liked that sort of assertiveness and audacity in ordinary circumstances, but in this case... 

     “You know the difference between right and wrong, Ruler, especially as a man of faith. I want you to reconsider if what you are doing is actually on the side of peace and justice,” she told him, scoldingly. Ruler was too virtuous to be making such grave errors in judgement.  It angered her.

     “I hope that you will stop yourself... once you realize you have made a mistake.”

     It may seem unlikely that Witch of Dun Scaith would ever be found in the Far East, but the reason was quite simple, actually. She had Seen in her scrying bowl in the darkness of Skye that a Lancer... from Ireland... was to be summoned into this present war. Naturally, Scathach sealed the Gate to the Otherworld with runes upon runes, and traveled to watch over him. Upon arrival, though, it was not her favorite student. It was another man, Fionn mac Cumhaill. Equally talented, equally brave... The Witch enjoyed watching him fight until he was killed by this... Ruler.

     Scathach was severely disappointed. She played favorites without shame, and was hoping to see the Lancer win this game... but it was not fate. She would be leaving now to return to Dun Scaith; the rest of this Grail War was none of her concern. 

     In this final bout, she had not made a secret of her audience, watching from nearby. So when she turned to leave and was addressed, it did not necessarily surprise her. She looked to Ruler, and wondered if he could discern what her true status was. After all, she was not a Servant... she was not alive... and she was not dead.

     “I am not suited to participate in a contest like this, Ruler,” she answered him, alluding to her status as something akin to a ghost.       “From what I’ve observed of this war and previous iterations... I thought Rulers... were not to take an active part...?” she asked, with an accusatory tone.

“funny how the rider one of you begs for my attention, but as soon as there’s a you who’s interesting, you quail away from it.” this is for very obvious reasons that asclepius chooses to completely ignore. ah, no, why ever would anyone be averse to a researcher simply trying to advance science!

“anyways, i want to do some testing your eye. don’t worry, i won’t blind it.“ as if any permanent injury would be allowed to happen around asclepius. though on second thought... seeing how it would heal from that kind of thing might be interesting, too. hm. wait, no, he still has to get beast jason’s trust first.

“Hmm? You can say that but it is more that I changed, not necessarily a haircut if I am still the same person at my core, isn’t it? I am still as you called me before, every bit of a devil and am willing to show that I have only grown since Shimosa.”

     He said that she would always be welcome in the house of his father... so when she went looking for him, that was where she went.

     There was a particular church in Trifas that Ruler tended to spend his time at. Lakshmibai paused outside the doors and looked up at it, wondering if it would be disrespectful for her to enter... She trusted Ruler as a purveyor of his faith, so after a deep breath she stepped out of the heat of the sun and into the cooler interior. 

     Lakshmibai walked slowly up the aisle between the pews and stopped beside where Ruler was standing. Whether he was praying or simply thinking... or perhaps plotting... she had no idea. She looked up at the stained glass above them in silence, appreciating the beauty of this house of worship, and missing the beauty of her own homeland. She frowned.

     “Ruler... when you said my nation deserved better... than the current state of the world... what did you mean by that?”

“You’re bewitched...?” He’s certainly darkened by something. “Mm, not by the moon.” As on second thought, there’s a difference between this angry fellow and the sort of madness Caligula knows. (Pry him open and find out, see what god has written their name in his blood for offering— no, no, let’s not do that yet.) His hand was already lifted towards Amakusa and he pretends it’s a casual gesture he did on purpose rather than an offhanded impulse to snap him. “All roads-- Rome. You're human, you’ll end up Roman eventually.”

“Haha!  You could.  But while I admit that wall of muscle outclasses me in strength, I’m far more stylish and eye-catching.”   According to himself, at least.   “And have better tastes.  So, as they say, I stay winning!”
