This one was really hard to do! Combining agere with a dark, kind of gothic aesthetic was very hard. I originally wanted to put a webbed hand or scale covered skin in the centre, but all of the photos I found were of white people! I chose scales instead, but it created a mood-board with too many patterns and not enough stuff going on. This one was a challenge, but I really enjoyed it 🫧🦪
So, about the Siren Au(s)
When we made the pinned post, there was only one of these suckers. Then my brain went, "Oooh, shiny!" And now there's 3! So, on this post I'm gonna introduce each of them with what is currently their name and tag for the au.
The post is gonna be long, so under the cut it goes!
Whoopsie, this tub's taken!
for the story ask: I would LOVE to see your take on 19) sea change
OHOHO THIS WAS AN INTERESTING ONE INDEED! I was sort of inspired by a siren!Jon fic that's been outlined and poked at in my drafts for a WHILE now so I thought I'd do a scene that could have come from that! Maybe I'll finish the full thing someday who knows >> but until then enjoy this one! X3
19. Sea Change
The whale was long dead.
They both knew that, but it was far from the point, Martin supposed as he watched the hauntingly beautiful creature struggle with the lashings securing the invaluable carcass to The Tundra. The waves of his long raven hair shone iridescent green in the moonlight as they tossed around him on the foamy surf. The spiny-finned silhouette of him was wrought over and through the canvas of dark water by the hoary glow, as well as emerald points of bioluminescence flickering angrily along his sinewy, serpentine body. His webbed hands clawed at the ropes with talons that gleamed viciously, but did precious little to rend through the impenetrable twists of algae-stained sisal. Now and again in clear frustration, he would vanish beneath the waves, only to reemerge in a different spot to brawl at the harpoons still buried in the blubbery flesh, working tirelessly, ceaselessly, to free the whale from her grisly fate.
It didn’t matter that she was dead, she didn’t belong to them, and he was there to take her home to rest.
Martin watched in awe at the taffrail for as long as he dared, his bated breath barely a silver shimmer in the frigid air. What compelled him to reach into his pocket for his switchblade, or to call out to the ethereal thing that certainly would not understand his human tongue, he couldn’t say. All he knew was he spared none of it a second thought as he flipped open the knife and held it out over the water.
“O-Oy!” he hollered in a raspy whisper, “Here! Take this!”
The mercreature lit up in alarm like a streaming meteor shower, fins flaring. He whipped over his shoulder, narrowed abyssal black eyes at Martin, then slipped once again into the safety of the sea with a hiss.
“Ah! W-Wait! Wait don’t go! S-Sorry! Sorry I wanted to give you… ah…” Martin moaned in defeat, drooping over the railing.
Mourning the warbling rings of light marking the place where he had lost the breathtaking spirit, Martin drew himself up to go, but a curious ripple of water near the hull stayed his boots. The mercreature had reemerged directly beneath him, eyes filled with the light of galactic depths, regarding him in wonderment as he held up an open palm. Martin’s heart raced, and he dropped his offering of the blade carefully over the water. The mercreature caught it deftly, and mirrored the warm smile of his insubordinate human aide with a curt nod of his head in acknowledgement.
Martin kept watch all the while he bore the sacred beast back down to the depths for her last rites, Lukas family fortune be damned.
