Nothin’ like a copious amount of carbs after a near death experience. Soups on, Maties!
“What then? What is it? Rousing the whole ship up at this hour and for what? Can’t see a damned thing in all of this fog anyways!” Rubbing sleep from his eyes as he stormed across the deck, the merchant captain reached up and seized the spyglass from the man peering forth into nothingness across the ships bow.
“Honest, Sir. Saw a shape.. Looked like a ship. One second it was there an’ then it wasn’t. Like a ghost..”
Hushed gasps rose from the gathered crew, huddled behind the captain like sheep waiting the truth of it all. Ghost ships could be anything.. all of them bad.
“Quiet! All of you!” The merchant captain barked as he raised the spyglass and peered into the mists, scanning across the horizon for signs of any..
Like thunder from a distant storm the ship hiding in the mists belched a full broadside of cannon fire towards the merchant vessel, the captain catching glimpses of muzzle fire in the distance and before he could cry out a warning the deck of the ship exploded. The cries of dying men would have sounded above it all if not for the ear-piercing screeching of dozens of giant, fanged bats with crimson eyes now tearing at the ships sails.
From the mists? A ship as black as the water at night emerged and crashed into the side of the merchant ship, grinding along its port side as grappling hooks and gangplanks were fixed to their target.
Somewhere in the middle of the ocean, away from aid, a ship had fallen prey to the Red Blade.
