new 2012 U.S. tour blog - day 1: 7/28/2012, Los Angeles, CA
I realized I have a lot of pictures and videos from my U.S. tour last year, and while it's many months later, it'd be nice to share some of them before hitting the road again in a few weeks. That last tour was over 80 days long and a lot of stuff happened. Not all of it was interesting, but this isn't meant to be some comprehensive novel about what it's like to live in a car and play music across the country. It's just going to be random pictures, anecdotes, situations. Short things. I don't even really want to talk about shows because there was just too many of them. I never really used this Tumblr page for much, so it's probably a good a place as any to make a little post with some pictures and notes from each day. - - - The first day was a tour kickoff at Human Resources here in Los Angeles, and a bunch of friends played. Tom Hall played an awesome set with intensely overstimulating visuals. Cornelius F. Van Stafrin III was in town from North Carolina and his set with Patrick (Sissisters) and Maria (Concrete Shiva) turned things in the opposite direction, a minimal, ritualistic performance of dark electroacoustic sound. Part of it involved a bowl of water on a contact miced board if I recall correct. Ezra Buchla is always really captivating. He turns gear failure into something special. He had his computer hooked up to the projector, showing stagnant windows with flittering text and numbers in his synthesizer program:
It was a really good kickoff show that got me really pumped up, everyone fit together so nicely.
