Zane has had five high admirals in his time as a Hand. He killed Maris, to see what it was like to kill a close friend. Altair died in combat. Sitara died in the Moratrix disaster. Xur and Verada are still alive. They were (present tense, in Verada's case) all as devoted to him as Xur is. They all met Xur's standards- and had impossible standards of their own that they enforced amongst each other.
