I was so terrified of this before I got on meds! In fact I wouldn't consider taking them until after the depression had already taken everything I was afraid the meds would. I probably could've avoided a 12 year dry spell and a lot of my current blockage issues if I had gotten more timely treatment. I get SO ANGRY whenever I see that fear being spread now.

I always worried about this! And when I was on cipralex, I found it washed me out really bad. It felt like most of my personality and creativity just went on a vacation. It really scared me tbh but after they put me on a different medication, everything came back and also brought enough motivation to actually do things. I don't worry so much about creativity drain or the "not being the real you" thing anymore. I think it's all a matter of finding what medication works best for you.

The thing with anti-depressants, for me at least, is that while you no longer experience those bursts of energy (highs), you also no longer really experience those really intense lows either. They make you stable, and stable is, honestly, good!! It makes me consistent
I don’t feel like there’s anything to add here; you all made great points.
Bottom line is don’t be afraid of what meds might do to creativity. You might find it actually helps, and even if it does hinder it, there are other meds you can try.
