Citizens Against Sit/Lie Laws
Redding California, Chico’s neighbors to the north, is being threatened by Sit/Lie laws as well. Without a Roof stands in solidarity with any community that has these laws, or is considering adopting them.
We need community involvement in striking down these affronts to our liberty and public spaces. Please consider voicing your opposition and disdain early and often. Civil action is crucial!
Here are some Without a Roof resources to assist you. Thanks!

"It's gonna really hurt a lot of homeless people, because there's a lot of homeless people in Chico. It's almost like we're going back to the 1960's where black people weren't allowed to sit on certain chairs or drink out of certain fountains." - Amanda -
"It will be giving them fines for sitting where they want to sit as an American. That's not right. They don't have any money so they'll owe the police money. They'll just go to jail, because they don't have any money." - Amanda -

Amanda signs a petition against Sit/Lie, says it’s wrong
11-year-old Amanda signs a petition against Sit/Lie, says it's wrong
Without a Roof proudly introduces Amanda, an amazing young lady.
Amanda and her family were enjoying a Saturday afternoon together at Chico Downtown Plaza. Simultaneous smiles and 'hi Bill' smacked my face and ears from two directions, one from a young homeless traveler approaching for a hug, the other from Amanda's dad Bryan.
After a hug and some dog bone gifting I eagerly went over to see Bryan's family. Bryan and his wife Missy have three girls, Amanda being the oldest.
Almost immediately Amanda said, "Is that a petition?"
"Why yes it is," I replied.
I described the concept of the proposed Sit/Lie law and that this was a petition in opposition.
Without hesitation she said, "I want to sign."
I asked Amanda if this was the first petition she had signed...
"Yes." slight pause, "I'm in America Baby!"
Yes indeed you are Amanda.
Spoiler alert: Tune in tomorrow to hear what Amanda thinks about the ordinance, including this gem... "Ya know I was thinking, an 11-year-old can figure this out America why can't you? Seriously."
