Whenever you walk Noctis towards water in-game he won't swim. This is because he actually has a fear of water. He also wants to save all the innocent fishies from the scary water, but he has to keep his distance from it himself so he uses a fishing rod.
Bonus: Leviathan is fucking scary. He actually had to get possessed by the armiger to complete that trial.
