Six Songs of Me, Day Five: What song would you want at your funeral? Man on Fire - Live at the Wonder Ballroom, Portland OR, 9/3/2010 - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros It has to be this version, or, performed just like this. Not during the cremation (ha-ha), but, I guess ideally my scattering ashes/memorial happening one sunny afternoon, on a cliff near the ocean, and this song playing at some point, would be a nice way to go: Rambunctious friends outside in the grass, the trumpets, all those instruments, the whoops, the handclapping... Natural, celebratory, and free.
I don't want to be buried underground; if anyone so chooses to visit that site, at least they can adventure to a new and changing landscape. It's as if I want to leave people the way this song leaves me feeling: inspired, happier than a few moments before, and wanting to celebrate being alive, experience everything, dance, and love!
