Emotional grounding in challenging times
Strengthening your root chakra is an important way to establish a sense of emotional grounding. To do this ongoing process because it requires that you constantly adapt to the ever-changing world around you. Like the trees and flowers in nature, your roots need to go deep so that they can bend with the ups and downs of life without breaking.
While it is desirable to have a solid foundation in life, this stability does not come from the external world. It must come from you, and your choices rather than the circumstances around you. For example, right now in the USA and even around the world there are great upheavals going on in the financial markets, affecting people’s emotional grounding all over the place. Due to unstable foundations, many people are losing their homes, jobs, money in their investments, and retirement funds, all of which destabilize your foundation profoundly. So rather than trying to establish security and safety by trying to control your external environment, which none of us can ever do, it is far more sane, reasonable and grounding to your first chakra to create an internal environment that supports you, no matter what the external conditions in the world around you are, which you can do.
Start by paying attention to what calms your spirit, soothes your soul and helps you feel safe and secure, and then to the best of your ability, regardless of the conditions around you, preserve those conditions, no matter what.
For example, as a teacher and speaker I travel a great deal, which in itself can be very destabilizing to my first chakra. So in order to remain strong and healthy in my root chakra, I bring along things that bring me comfort when I am on the road, such as my own pillow, a good pair of comfy pajamas, my I-pod and headphones for comforting music, and healthy power bars so that I always have something good to eat with me. Though simple, without these things my first chakra would be very unhappy indeed.
Another way to ground yourself is to go to bed on time, eat healthy meals, and meditate for a few quiet minutes before you start your day. Basic routine is highly important to the health of the first chakra.
The more you are to keep rituals and routines that help you feel comforted, rooted, and consistent the more adaptable you will be when life throws you a curveball and you are required to make changes in a hurry. You will be able to maintain your root stability and draw from the strength of the healthy firth chakra no matter what goes on around you.
While being grounded is primarily an energetic condition, it is also important to recognize the fact that being grounded is greatly influenced by your physical habits. If you never exercise, for example, you will not be grounded no matter what your attitude is. Another basic need for the first feeling grounded is getting enough sound nutrition. Needless to say, eating poorly, eating on the run, eating junk food that has no nutritional value will destabilize you for sure. If you do not eat well enough, your battery will run down, your energy will drop, and you will get ungrounded. So does overloading your system with eating too much food, or eating too late in the day. Be responsible in what you choose to fuel your own physical vehicle with. Not eating a healthy diet creates a vicious downward spiral.
Another thing to consider for healthy grounding is feeling safe. Many people suffer from energetically threatening conditions that cause them to feel unsafe such as being in difficult relationships and unstable jobs that leave them feeling dispensable, unvalued and unimportant. Sadly such conditions are rampant in the world today and are causing the very foundation of our world to feel in crises.
Again, it's not possible to control what goes on around you, but you can control what goes on inside of you. No situation really has power over you unless you give it that power. Even if you are in energetically ungrounded conditions, remember you have the power to step away. And run away if necessary. It is never necessary to live like a prisoner unless you are one, and even then, no one can imprison your mind or spirit unless you allow it. Once you decide that you have a basic right to safety and choose it for yourself, the Universe will lead you to higher ground.
While all of these tips assist in helping you feel grounded in life, the most grounding thing you can do, above all, is to become fully responsible and totally committed to loving yourself and making choices that reflect your commitment. No one can better support you than you. Take the time to think about what you do need to feel safe and secure, and move in that direction. Being solidly grounded means gladly assuming responsibility for yourself, and then doing whatever it takes to create the kind of security you need.
Getting more grounded and feeling more secure can be accomplished in so many creative ways. Begin by recognizing what supports you, starting with your own physical body, and then clear to your spirit and then choosing more and more that for yourself, one committed step at a time, starting today.
