Watching beauty standards evolve over time is nice but I feel like we’re still not quiiite there yet
"You’re beautiful if you’re skinny, being fat is unhealthy"
"You’re beautiful if you have curves, skinny women are gross"
"You’re beautiful if you’re in a nice midrange "healthy" body type"
"You’re beautiful regardless of body type! Accept your body no matter what!"
"It’s OK to dislike your current body type, but you’re still beautiful!"
The latter phrases are nice, but... they still center around the implied idea that being beautiful is a prerequisite for self-worth
idk, yo. Beauty is cool but it’s not always a universal indicator for value, I think
Not impressed.
The Spartan Race just posted this to Facebook.
Size-shaming, erasure of other types of bodies, and the sexism in this post are just gross.
Fail, Spartan Race, now I'm not sure I want to participate in your event.
note: ffs don't read the comments. ugh. triggery shit.
Sigh. This was not a good morning.
I've only been at work for a couple of hours, I've already had one person make a comment to me about my weight, and another person (one of the young boys) mime bouncing a very large woman on his lap behind my back (he turned it into a yawn/stretch when looked back to see what his friends were laughing at). Hey, guess what, workplace jerks? I've always been heavy, and right now my depression meds are putting a few extra pounds on me. I've also been stress-eating more than I should, now that my home life is disintegrating. So, thanks for the extra ridicule. That will help a lot. Can I just go home, now? Please? :-(
