so Karl, out of the fiancé trio, has been on the ship the longest. I don’t know how to lead up to this and i don’t wanna do like hints or stuff so i’ll put it bluntly:
he’s a dragon.
he was cursed by some evil wizard into a human form and now he’s the ships cartographer (cause he knows where everything is from flying around as a dragon) and he’s looking for someone to undo the curse. Currently he has to stay human but can turn into a dragon for at most a few days, though it becomes painful at that point and he has to turn back. Y’know that one quote from The Last Unicorn like “I can feel this body dying all around me!” yeah it’s like that. watch The Last Unicorn it traumatized me when i was little.
anyway Quackity’s got some fucked up lore too which i’ll get into later so this sentence isn’t gonna make any sense, but Karl met Quackity after he helped murder a mafia boss and was rescued from legal consequence by his ex fiancés sister. Quackity is an avian, and animal hybrids are seen as lesser by society. Elytrians are big bird hybrids, Avians are small, not like it matters much cause Elytrians were hunted to extinction by humanity. Avians are treated incredibly poorly, but Karl took one look at Q’s shiny golden wings and his dragon brain claimed him instantly.
anyway they fall in love and Karl (who’s able to use a limited amount of magic, forgot to mention that) gives him a necklace that can make him big so he can hide his avian traits and pretend to be human when they dock (and so they can make out i mean what who said that)
as for Sapnap, he meets Quackity when the DTeam kidnap him and arrest him for piracy as mentioned in a previous post. Sapnap is alone with him tied up in the depths of the ship and is really just trying to get under his skin when he realizes that messing with said necklace sends Q into a visible panic. It’s upon taking the necklace off that he sees why.
Sapnap doesn’t see that Q is a hybrid, but he is very panicked when his captive shrinks. Sapnap is stunned, but quickly puts the necklace back on Q and re-ties him up, never mentioning to Dream or George what he saw, which Quackity appreciates since they could have tortured him while he was small. On the other hand, Karl initially hates Sapnap. His dragon instincts see him as someone who tried to steal not just someone from his hoard, but his mate, which his instincts deem unforgivable. Sure Dream and George are perceived in the same way, but Sapnap was more vocal about hurting Quackity during the kidnap to try and egg the pirates on, so to Karl he’s the worst of the three. Quackity, on the other hand, likes Sapnap more than Dream and George initially since Sapnap hid his secret and returned his necklace. So other than Bad and Skeppy (obviously), Quackity is the nicest to Sapnap on the ship and frequently stops Karl’s attempts to throw him overboard (Sapnap still refuses to remove his anti-mermaid cuffs and Karl knows damn well he can’t swim)
