I love Triplanetary. It’s almost 50 years old and the ship movement is damn near perfect.
True Tales of the Illuminati is a full-cast audio drama podcast about conspiracies gone wrong, currently in the final week of a crowdfunding
What is going on at Steve Jackson Games?
A couple of weeks ago, I got a notification that my logins and passwords had been published on the internet for a handful of sites I seldom access.
One of them was www (dot) sjgames (dot) com -- the publishers of the GURPS tabletop system, of Munchkin, of some other fun things over the decades. They have their own store, a subsidiary site called “Warehouse 23″.
I managed to change my password at every single affected site EXCEPT on sjgames or Warehouse 23. There, I kept getting a “Forbidden” error when my browser tried to access my account info.
So I emailed them about it, explaining the entire problem.
Today I finally got a boilerplate answer that they’ve updated their website since I last used it, and they sent me a password reset link, and contact them again if I have any further trouble.
Well, the password reset sends me to their “Contact Us” form page. Not to a password reset.
And if I poke around at my account, after a few clicks I do get to a page where I can edit my login email address -- on which page I can change my password, sure, and update my Billing Information and my Shipping Address.
Oh! But if I don’t provide all of this information, fill in every single form, then it won’t accept a password change either!
Shenanigans!
By the by, there’s still no way to simply delete my account.
So I’ve used the Wayback Machine to confirm that I have valid telephone numbers for their direct line (the one that ends in “7866″) going back several years, plus their toll free number (the one that ends in “fnord23″) also going back several years. I tried calling each of those to speak to a probably SJGames employee in Austin, Texas.
The phone rings and rings. No one picks up. No voice mail system picks up, either.
I hate to see Steve Jackson Games become a casualty of badly-performed digital crime even if that is in keeping with 2020 -- anybody out there know how to get hold of a SJGames employee without potential “script kiddie villain” interception?
