So I hear WorldCon got protested by whiny manbabies, but I never noticed them, while I was inside, enjoying the queerest, most diverse convention I've ever attended. There were huge, active efforts made to bring people of color and college students and lgtbquia+ folks and there were panels about pronouns and writing science fiction with varied genders that are not binary and there were a couple panels where a majority of the panelists were nonbinary and/or trans. The "own voices" initiative was fantastic, with a panel about representation of disability in media which was by and for disabled people.

I attended in a wheelchair, and it was the most wheelchair accessible convention I've seen.

The convention center wasn't terrific for food allergy issues but I figured it out. (Whispers Cafe and Safeway were my nexus for food.) I swear to God that San Jose downtown does not comprehend gluten free. I ordered takeout from original Joe's and found a goddamn noodle in my veg. Have had nothing breadlike since I left home. They just... don't ... exist... within four blocks of the convention center. Whispers makes me a eggs Benedict salad that is to die for, holy shit, so I'm managing to eat.

I'm here under the name I may be changing to... I'm in a giant purple wheelchair with blue hair and a colorful band wrapped around my chest (a wrapsody baby wrap that I'm using as a post top surgery binder) and I don't mind people saying hi.

I nearly bought a shirt that says, "These are not the breasts you're looking for" or something like that, but they didn't have it in my size. I laughed long and hard at that one though.
