Hello! I'm an author trying to make a cohesive sounding naming system for my fantasy setting, but all of my names just sound like some two-pence author mashing sounds together and hoping they sound foreign enough (which is actually exactly what's happening). Do you do freelance work on the side or have any guides you could point me towards for help?

I do have a book called The Art of Language Invention that goes through how to create a language. There’s also plenty of free resources that can be found online at the Language Creation Society’s website. Also, I wrote an article about coming up with fantasy names in fiction you can read here.

Faces, Reva never forgets a face. Names are of little consequence to her, but the face of that guy who can talk to Dragons and knows the spot that has the best scones in the city? That’s a thing to recall!

20. In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?

For herself, all too often, Reva compares herself to the thought of what ‘normal’ families would like their child to be like. Not a thief, perhaps a dancer, but not one who does what she does with her gifts.  She does this out of thoughtlessness, and perhaps to criticize herself for her deviation from that which would have been expected of her had her family lived. She pushes these thoughts away when they come, nothing good comes from wondering “what if”

(Doing this off anon so you can see I'm not Paladin)I see what point you're trying to make when you say that hating all things that channel negative energy are evil and should be hunted is a racist point of view and I appreciate that you have very strong views about racism. But as well intentioned as I think you are I don't think it productive or positive to compare POC to things like wights, undead hordes, or even necromancer's themselves. The last comparison can be especially problematic.

I’m not making those comparisons. Paladin made those comparisons when he used racial arguments against necromancers. When he used racist language. People are never “evil” because of where they are from, they are “evil” because of what they do.

I’m full aware that Pally didn’t intend to be racist. I know full well that’s the last thing he’d want to be. But these things happen when we don’t guard against them.

27. How does your character normally deal with confrontation?

-It depends on the type of confrontation. If it is something personal or seemingly trivial, Azarel would try to avoid it in hopes of it blowing over. Though, it rarely ever works. If it is over something he strongly believes in or involves a friend of his, Azarel will not back down. A recent example of this would be the letter to the guildmaster.

43. Has your character ever had a dependent figure who was not related to them?

-Unless you count befriending stray animals whilst traveling, no. However, he does have a younger sister. But saying she was ever dependent on him would be laughable.
