The Gods answer your prayers in funny ways.

For years I have had a fascination with Skadhi and I have been wanting to build a relationship with Her, but I just hadn’t been feeling the same connection with divinity that I had with the other deities I worship. I have always kept a space on my altar for Her because of how much I admire Her and everything She means to me.

After a while, I started to fall back on my religious practice since the stress of my first year of college has kept me totally mentally and spiritually messed up. When I managed to find some time for grounding and centering and personal cleansing and prayer, I begged Her to hear me out and show me that She was there to listen to me and that She would be willing to build a relationship with me. I really wasn’t sure I would get any message from Her in return in lieu of Her radio silence. Today, a massive noreaster hit and I felt the snow hit my face. With each snowflake falling upon my cheeks and face, I felt Her. It felt different from every other cold gust of winter wind I had felt in my life and different from any snowfall I have ever experienced. She was there, and She was telling me that She was taking Her first steps towards our divine connection. 

A storm such as this noreaster, I feel, is highly representative of everything She commonly stands for; icy blasts of snow both pelting the ground and falling onto the pavement the same way your eyelashes hit your cheeks with each blink. As beautiful as the first snow of the season is, it is a stark reminder of the finality and harshness of life. One could stand outside and feel the snow on one’s skin for many hours, but they would certainly die from the cold. Winter is just as cruel and harsh as it is magical and joyous, but that is life. Skadhi is there when children celebrate school cancellations. She is there as ice dancers skate across the ice as if taking flight. She is there when animals perish among the ice, and when its carcass feeds another’s family. She is there in each toast, each loving meal made, each snow cone, each snowman built, and She is there for each hopeful winter’s hunt. 

Monday, December 2, 2019: I felt Skadhi for the first time after years of trying to build a relationship with Her. In that moment, I knew that She was there and She was listening.

I'm going through a huge devotional playlist I've been adding to for months now, and I forgot I had some ambient albums on here that I'm absolutely in love with.

For anyone who works with Skadi or Hödr (even Ullr too) and you're looking for music, I recommend looking into Metamorfrozen - an outstanding side project by Vampiir of the North. His dark ambient album, Metamorfrozen, is to die for and is just beautiful to listen to.
