LA / Film Screening: Skateboard Madness
Skateboard Madness (1980), narrated by Phil Hartman A Mother Ditch test screening at TSALA Saturday, Dec 10, 8:00 pm FREE, with refreshments provided 440 S Broadway, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles CA 90013 Parking is free after 6 pm in loading zones (yellow curb), parking lots are plentiful, and the space is a short walk from the Pershing Square Metro
"Skateboard Madness" is the kind of film you talk through: a goofy, freeform sociological roadtrip movie that shows a really different kind of public sphere engagement than what we are used to now. As the protagonists make their way down the coast of California, their documentary subjects take to the streets to roller/skate/board with strangers en masse. Long segments on skateboarding, rollerskating, surfing, "snow skateboarding," and "wind skateboarding," rounded out with Claymation. It's got it all. Narrated by SNL's Phil Hartman, directed by 70s surf film maestro Hal Jepsen, and starring a young Stacy Peralta, legendary skateboarder turned film director ("Dogtown and Z-Boys"). Bring your own chair. Presented by the Mother Ditch experimental film collective, this event is casual -- we're testing out our screening equipment with this frothy film.
