Eugene has been on a few panels in the past where he talked about the production side of things, about how they use data from their analytics team (this was when they were still at buzzfeed) and how they approach making videos and also about their onscreen personas. It was really interesting.
Right - I recall something about A-B testing video titles? And I think it was BUILD that had all the development partners for a panel, where they mentioned that it’s just ingrained in their workflow which size and format media does best on what platform - facebook is square post-script and youtube depends on thumbnails and reiteration and something about click-through rates...
Like, it is very clear that a) they come from a media production background, but not viral media before joining buzzfeed and b) they did wet their feet in viral media at buzzfeed in particular.
