It was her birthday, the day when the world was supposed to end. She wasn't ready for the end of the world, not when she had so much to do. Delving under the covers, Raven listened to the relaxing music of her playlist with her headphones on. Glowing red marks settled themselves upon her skin as she panicked. A faint knock on the door caught her attention as she drew her cloak around her tight. Ripping her headphones off, she asked,
"Who is it?"
"It's me, Beastboy."
Internally, Raven groaned. She had no time to deal with him or his nonexistent problems.
"Go away."
"Well, you've been in there for more than usual and, we're getting
worried."
"I'm fine. Go away."
"Are you sure-"
"I said, go away!" She snapped. A moment later, Raven heard a shuffle as Beastboy sulked back to the common area.
She thought back to the first time the marking had appeared, glowing a slight red. Since then, they had worsened and become more noticeable, which, of course, had brought the attention of the rest of the Teen Titans. The marks had made her wearier of her emotions, causing her to shut herself out from her teammates.
Raven had combed through every book in her library about the marks and had only recently discovered what would happen. It would happen so soon, she thought. Another notion crossed her mind as she reached for her abandoned headphones she had previously thrown. Tell them. The thought itself seemed absurd. They wouldn't be able to help, and yet, as the thought evolved in her mind, Raven found herself leaning towards it more and more.
The dark prison walls reflected no light through the small window in the brickwork.
She was a fool for telling them. They had thrown her in here without a second thought even though she was their teammate, their comrade. The looks of fear and disgust on their faces ingrained itself in her mind as she stared at the places on her skin where the markings would appear. Sooner or later, her arms would be covered with the ancient markings of Hell. The world would destroy itself, and she would be the one to blame.
Not one of her so-called teammates had come to check on her. No one seemed to care for her well-being.
Would it be that bad to destroy the earth, then to rebuild it from the ashes to the ground up? A new world is much better than the current world, with all its murdering criminals and lying thieves. A shiver crawled up her spine.
A new world.
Her marks started to appear in dark red, bubbling, and swarming along her skin as they glowed bright enough to illuminate the prison cell. Her vision turned a shade of red as she felt another pair form themselves onto her face.
Raven turned to the camera in her cell with a blood-curdling smile on her face. The walls of Raven's former prison crumpled in on itself as a surge of power come from Raven. All it took was one second, one second where everything that had encaged Raven was destroyed.
Hours later, the world was engulfed in bright purple flames. Screaming followed shortly after. Glass buildings melted at the heat of her fire, and roads crumbled.
The end of the world smelled like lavender.
Green robes swirled with the draft coming from the fires.
A katana slid into its sheath.
Damian Al Ghul watched the purple fires with interest. He had been planning the end of the world for years, but it appeared that someone else had beat him to it. He turned to Goliath and climbed on his back. He signaled to his troops to follow them.
Gotham's heroes were all swarming around one powerful being standing in the middle of all the fires. Thick smoke covered her from head to toe. A faint twinkle caught his eye. Where a head would have been was a faint glow.
Damian turned towards his waiting troops. He nodded his head. Countless soldiers of his soon started to sneak up on the heroes and stuck them with special needles.
A wave of fire came from the half-demon once more. The fires died down. Red skin turned a milky white, and four eyes converged into one. Raven's horns pushed themselves back into her skull. Her gem, which had been alight and glowing, was now dull only faintly bright. The fires started to weaken as she collapsed.
Damian surveyed his surroundings, glancing at the knocked out heroes. His soldiers were tending to themselves, as some of the heroes had fought back. The billowing smoke that had surrounded the half-demon was now gone. The fumes from it still lingered in the air. A young woman was lying on the rubble she once had been standing upon. Purple hair fell in waves across her shoulders and neck.
Damian reached for his katana that was in its sheath. Someone as powerful as her could be something the league could use. But first, he had to make sure she wouldn't be able to attack them. As he neared her, he hesitated.
He never hesitated.
A sigh was heard from Damian as he sheathed his katana. Her body was flush against his clothing as he carried her. Goliath let out a soft Awoo and nuzzled her hair as Damian heaved her body onto his saddle.
Damian looked at her face one more time, then retrieved a set of cuffs from a bag on the saddle and bound her hands in case she decided to wake up.
It was then that he noticed the faint markings on her skin. Her gem was surrounded by a marking as well. This one was black instead of red like the one on her arms.
Goliath started his rise from the earth. Damian stared at all the destruction that had been caused by the woman sleeping beside him. Dead people littered the streets, and, every once in a while, he saw a flash of bright color from a dead villains costume.
Damian looked at the young woman's sleeping form and frowned. Her body had been levitating the entire time she had been in the two-week coma. Her markings seemed to appear and disappear at random. Goliath would force his head through the window by her when he thought Damian wasn't looking. He was doing this now. A small whimper came from Goliath as he rested his big head on her stomach.
"Can't get enough of her, huh?" Goliath lifted his head in surprise. Damian stepped closer to her. A brief flutter came from her eyelids. Her fingers started to twitch lightly and move upwards. Dark violet eyes were suddenly peering up at him from drooping lashes. Her eyes met his green ones for a second before she fell asleep again.
In the few seconds that he looked in her eyes, Damian had seen the universe in them. They were enchanting. With a color that looked ethereal and so defined, as if cut from marble itself. He knew he shouldn't be feeling this, love is a weakness. He'd been taught that since birth. Yet as Damian turned to leave, he wondered if he could be taught otherwise.
Two weeks had gone by. Taking control of the world was a difficult task, but not nearly as bad as rebuilding everything.
Damian heard a small whimper coming from the room she was staying in. He found Goliath resting his head on the pillow that had been used by the mystery woman. The bed was vacant. Only the imprint of her body was there, pressed on the bed covers.
Though Damian was annoyed, he couldn't help but feel saddened by her absence. He went over to Goliath and stroked his head.
"What do you say we go look for her?"
Raven had summoned a portal as soon as she awoke.
Though she had only seen his eyes for a second, she had seen creation and destruction in them. Pain that was buried deep beneath years of undefeated victory. Luminous eyes that bore the intensity of jade.
If y’all want some new tunes you should DEFINITELY listen to Grave Danger! They are a “skath” band (ska goth) and they’ve got a really fun sound that doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you like Lemon Demon or Oingo Boingo then this shouldn’t be too far out of your tastes.
They’re a VERY underground band (6 feet underground one might say) but they definitely deserve some more listens.
I’d recommend listening to their songs Give up the Ghost, Grave Danger, Escape from Skull City, and Undead End Job! :D
