Guess who can skate backwards now, bitches!!!
I'm a wannabe skater who is looking to start lessons soon. I taught myself the basics like stroking, swizzles and crossovers. My problem is I can only do them going forwards and obviously it's necessary to be able to skate backwards. Any tips at all on learning how to skate backwards? :)
Use the wall to start off with. Begin by holding on and then pushing yourself backwards into a two foot glide.
Don’t lean backwards, rather sit your weight into your heels but don’t lean over them or you will fall.
Keep everything up, back straight, tummy in, arms up.
Get good speed and you’ll find it easier to balance.
So I went to the rink today to practice what I was taught at training and towards the end I kinda accidentally skated backwards! I had started rolling backwards so I decided to go with it… I didn’t freak out and ended up trying it again a second time. Might not have been for long but I did it!
Still not a great skater but that just gave me a massive confidence boost. Hope I can capitalize on it next skate session.
Anyone got tips for skating backwards?
