I GOT TO TRY OUT MY SHARPENED SKATES. My blades felt heavy because they gripped the ice so much. It was so easy to glide. Turns feel easier but I need to learn the proper technique now. Crossovers felt so smooth but scary as always

Every time I try to do some sloppy cross rolls, I'm like: “Yuzu, how could you even make cross rolls look so sexy?”
Skating update: on Saturday I figured out an easier way to enter forward crossovers (strokes instead of pumps) and on Sunday I finally figured out how to physically do the backwards crossover motion!!!
Gonna be back to my skates and be on ice next week yayyyyy
It's only been 3 weeks but I miss the feeling of skating so much 😭😭😭😭
I finally got back on ice today after so long~~~~~~ :3 It was the best feeling ever despite almost getting hit at by 40 kids who randomly decided to go to my rink to skate XD I should really practice more during break tho I'm broke and skating is not free at this time of the year haha :P
And I'm back to doing translation too. Let's see if I can keep my promise of finishing first draft before New Year, tho I'm like 20 days behind schedule *wails* :))))
Just a few days more of this year, let's make the most out of them :D
So I've been skating regularly lately, seeing my old rinkmates after a long summer, fulfilling a promise made in the summer to go skate with another adult skater I talked with online, and FINALLY getting skating lessons (3 so far).
I love it that my coach really cares about basic skating and constantly help me fix my bad habits and teach me how to use each part of my body right. My speed going through new skills are not as fast as before but I’m quite happy still :3
I only have 2 group lessons left and probably gonna find private lesson options after that (still so lost haha, pls drop in a comment if you guys had experience with this). But other than that, skating is definitely my zen moment of the day :3 *happily wiggle toes waiting for the time of the day to go to skate*
It felt like such a roller coaster ride today at the rink. So what I've been having problem with is my left side balance. It's ridiculously weak comparing to my right side, I couldn't even hold a left-foot glide more than 4 seconds. So it's kind of irritating when I'm progressing quite well with all skills on my right side, my left side just can't follow that pace at all.
So today just as normal, I went to practice. Everything didn't start very well: my rink was closed so I took the bus to another rink to practice, it rained midway so I had to take Uber else I would arrive all wet, the ice was full of children for a small birthday party and there were 5 coaches teaching also, so it was very quite crowded.
What was the most troublesome was as I got onto the ice, I realized I might have pulled a muscle in my left thigh last night during sleep, so it felt very tight when I skated using my left leg. So both my physical, mental condition and my surroundings were not the best for practice (XP).
After 30 minutes, it didn't hurt but I was constantly massaging my left thigh, time went by very slowly. It didn't feel fun at all, I really wanted to call it a day and get off the ice, but I debated with myself and decided to just try a little bit more. I tried to distract myself from the tightness in the thigh and concentrate my mind on my blade, pay attention to the coaches' and other skaters' skating, and figured out where I put my balance wrong and how it should be done.
And somehow, after another 30 minutes, everything kind of clicked. I ended up getting a lot more out of that session than I ever expected. I improved a lotttt on my left-foot glide and balance overall, I managed to fix problems with both side of crossovers especially left side and achieved some decent crossrolls. I had been so itchy that my body couldn't execute what my brain knows I should be doing. And when my body finally got it, every time, it's a tingling tiny happiness that kept me smiling (like an idiot) :3
So yeah, I think I overworked my left thigh a little bit and after the practice, it feels tight even when I'm just walking, but well it was worth it. It was a productive session and I do understand now how good it is just to have people above your level on the ice skating with you, you do learn so much just from watching them. I never thought I could learn like that but well, skating surprised me, again.
It’s been a while since I last updated about my skating progress, but the ice has been treating me well. I’m actually able to connect different simple moves and move more ‘gracefully’, which equals ‘less like an awkward piece of jelly on ice I was’ :)))
I’ve been taking some yoga lessons recently too, to improve my sense of balance and thigh muscle strength on the left side of my body, which I feel I lack a lot comparing to my dominant right side.
Other than that, my skating progress is quite uneventful in a positive way (no injury/fall) and more about just enjoy being on the ice as much as I can :D
PS: I low-key trying to control my temper sometimes when i have to skate after the hockey team finished cause the rink would be either a lake or the most bumpy road ever, or both =.=
