Have you ever wondered to yourself, "Wow, I wonder what happened to all those awesome Mystic puppets after the movie was finished?"
Well I have (Most of) the answers. They were sold.
But where did they go? Well some went to museums or stayed in the Jim Henson Company's private collections, some were sold on auctions over the years, and others remain unidentified and possibly lost inside the Jim Henson Company's storage units.
I have compiled a list of mystics who have been preserved or spotted across the web after being sold to private collectors. If you are in possession of any pieces of any mystics, please reach out, I would love to add your piece to the masterlist!
I reached out to The Jim Henson Legacy, and they provided a list of mystics on display in museums! I had originally asked to learn about the whereabouts of particular mystics who I cannot find at all, but they could not provide answers, and instead gave me a handy list of museum mystics.
And now, a comprehensive breakdown of each of the original Ten Mystics;
UrSu (The Master); UrSu is at the Smithsonian, he is disassembled, but safely in storage. He has not been displayed in several decades. UrSu's feet also appear on YourProps.com,
UrIm (The Healer); UrIm's head was sold on auction at some point before 2008, and was seen in the private collection of an internet user on YourProps.com. His head was then seen again in a facebook group, in much worse condition, but the original post was since deleted, and only the images remain.
UrSol (The Chanter); UrSol is on display at the Pittsburgh Children's Museum-- However, his foot was posted on YourProps.com, by a user called Tom. So, UrSol has a total of three feet? UrSol also has a second head, which is at The Smithsonian, in storage.
UrNol (The Herbalist); UrNol is a curious case, because he has two heads, which have both been sold on auction. One intact head used for walking scenes, and one surviving latex skin from a hand puppet.
UrAmaj (The Cook); UrAmaj is missing. We cannot find him. I am personally emailing Karen Falk about this, I am not kidding. I want to know where he is, he is my favorite.
UrAc (The Scribe); UrAc is on display at The Center of Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, Georgia.
UrYod (The Numerologist); UrYod's head was mistakenly put onto UrUtt's body. The frankensteined mystic can be seen at the Museum of Moving Image.
UrUtt (The Weaver); UrUtt's head had once been on display at The Smithsonian, but has since been lost. UrUtt's body is on display at the Museum of Moving Image, with UrYod's head attached.
UrZah (The Ritual-Guardian); UrZah is missing, but his coat was sold on Propstore.com.
UrTih (The Alchemist); UrTih is also missing, and no part of him has yet to be identified among the loose mystic pieces that are in museums or private collections.
