Laying her eyes on him gives her a headache.
Nier clutches at her head, gritting her teeth. Looking at him muddles her memories, producing an echo that bounces through her mind. The boy with the blue jacket occupies the same space in her mind as the girl with the pink skirt; the same smiling face, the same steadfast sword, the same girl in blue, and the same red dragon. The same Captain, but clearly not the same person.
The pain subsides, and Nier shakes her head. As the moment passes, a different sensation washes over her, a kind of fluttering warmth that brings a smile to her face. She knows this boy, and though the circumstances of this reunion and her memories leave much to be desired, she doesn’t care. It hardly matters in the face of this blessed reunion, this rejoining of the Evoker and her captain.
Pressing her hand to her chest, she steps forward. The people milling about on the street seem to part for her, clearing a path towards the young man in blue. He hasn’t noticed her yet, but he’ll undoubtedly be pleased to reunite with some of his crew. Perhaps she can help him on this strange island, and return some of the kindness he had showed her. Only when she’s close enough does Nier finally speak his name. It comes with a minimum of trepidation, the same way she’d felt when she reunited with the girl in pink. Why the two seem to occupy the same spots in her memory is a question for later, something to ponder after she can be reminded of the love the captain has shown her.
“Gran? Th-that is you, right? Not another one of the city’s tricks...?”
She reaches out, placing a timid hand on his shoulder. When it makes contact, when she finally feels him, the doubt in her mind is dispelled. Nier smiles, pressing her hands to her chest as fresh tears begin to roll down her cheeks.
“It is you, isn’t it? I-I was worried, so many awful things have happened on this island, but with you here... I feel like it won’t be as bad...”
