god it’s so nuts that people have the brains to do skilled tasks, especially ones that involve memorization. all i can do is sit and knit stuff while humming to music. and before anyone says ‘but knitting is a skilled task!’ yeah i guess it is, but to me it’s a built up skill in the way you build up muscle by working out. once you learn basic stitches, you can go for hours without having to think about what you’re doing. i want what the people who memorize complex songs to play on their violas have, what the people who give 30 minute lectures have, what cooks who don’t need recipes anymore have. and i suppose those can all be argued to also be built muscle memory tasks, but the time span of which it takes to build all that up is so much greater than what it takes to learn how to accurately gauge your knit and purl stitches. i don’t have the brains for anything that long term
