IT WOULD BE out of the question to suggest Eliza didn’t enjoy her time away at her father’s, but she missed Alexander terribly while she was gone. They exchanged letters but it couldn’t compensate for his absence. Upon returning home, the children were even more excited to see him; it was an age before they’d finished telling him their stories and finally dispersed.
Eliza sighs contently, a tired smile resting on her face. Tired but by no means drained. The weeks away look good on her; she seems younger, not as pale as before. ❝ Don’t go yet, ❞ she asks him before he has the opportunity to stand. Eliza doesn’t wish to fall back into old habits but God knows he needs reminding that he’s allowed to rest.
❝ Like they said, you missed a lot, ❞ she laughs. Most of the tales the young Hamiltons considered important were the ones in which someone was getting covered in mud or water - often both. ❝ Did we miss anything here? -------- Apart from the obvious. ❞
