*Popcorns the sword fight - this’ll be interesting!*

“I don’t think that hiding behind your skirts, as lovely vision as it is, may be help in here.” He said, stern look on his face, and got his sabre out. He stood, facing the red guards with his sword.
“Please, remind me later, that this wasn’t a best idea of mine.”
“Oh, I’ll look forward to it.” Thera sighed in resignation. Surrounded by booze and male pride there hadn’t been much hope of avoiding the fight, but at least she’d tried. Glancing briefly around the room she stepped back, picking up a large flagon from the table nearby.
“Try to stay alive and not deprive me of that joy?”

”I could say the same for you. Have you ever fought with a Captain before?” He had gained experience from training but most of that had been in combat. That reflected in his stance and expression. He had done this before but this time there was no cannon fire or screaming of the angry or injured. This was two men who had decided to a fight.
Surrendering of the Swords
@skilledswordsman - from some meme thing on your blog ( I went stalky-stalk)
“I’m too tired to care. Blow up, get angry at me! I’m sure someday I’ll realize I deserved it.”
Sophia was exhausted, more than she ever felt it was possible to be. Apparently, the Comte de la Fere was a man of pride, and had made it his mission to find her. For a while, she had managed to stay two steps ahead, but when he offered gold, the dance was over, so to speak.
“ Go on, whatever you’re going to do, do it already. Just know I won’t go down without a fight.”

“Oh, I see.” Thera had chuckled a little at the reply about the drink, pouring one with a bit of a flourish and cheerfully handing it over - she’d felt it better to ask than to offer and force him to refuse. “Some manner of intuition, then, is that what you’re saying?”
She didn’t miss the glance over her, adding it to speculation of her own. Possibly he’d seen that she was there more or less on her own; her accent could either draw people in or send them away ... or perhaps as a Musketeer he’d gotten wind of that same, and was keeping an eye on her. Both figuratively and literally, it would seem.
A smile tugged as she took her first drink, diverting her own gaze out into the rich and dazzling crowd. To the ear it seemed she was being flirted with, though under the circumstances she doubted it was anything but passing. Which, as it happened, suited her fine - he wasn’t rude or intrusive, and it would liven up the evening, at the very least.
“So, tell me, Monsieur, “She looked back to him, and what could be seen of her expression was amused, “what else does your intuition say?”
Ready, Set, Fight?!
@skilledswordsman
Not an euphemism - but compared to her sword, her opponent’s seemed very large. Good thing they were also allowed the additional dagger if they desired. A strong, carrying voice announced the fight to the crowd:
“ For the prize purse of 240 livres in gold double Louis, tonight’s entertainment! A sword fight, dagger can be used alongside sword if desired, but not required. But tonight, we have a mystery fighter! Hailing from Toulon, they will go up against Athos, also known as the Comte de la Fere! As we all know, his record is extraordinary, to watch him is to watch live art. So, let the fight begin!”
Sophia was dressed simply in men’s breeches, white shirt, with a plain blue vest and leather boots. Her hair was tucked under a large hat, which helped hide her face, which she concealed all but her eyes with a light scarf that hid nose and mouth. She assumed the stance, and was ready for the first swing.
She might have grown up along the water, but swordsplay was her life, and she learned early on she was a far better swordsman that she would ever be as a fisherman’s daughter, or wife. It was her ticket to freedom - so far all the fights she’d been in she had done quite well, even if no one knew who she was. They just knew their opponent was tiny, swift, and could fight with equal skill ambidextrously. Usually the losers were so angry they left without finding out who she was, and the winners were happy to see her slink away without a fight.
She never made the first move - it was the first rule she’d been taught. Even if all they did was feint at her, let them break first. It applied to fights of all kinds. And she wanted to win so badly tonight, she had to win. To go up against Athos, and win? That alone was almost worth as much as the purse.
So she waited, eyes locked on his, brow raised in faint challenge.
“In my defense, I was left unattended.”

“And in mine, I was not assigned to attend you. For which I’m rather relieved.” Thera looked back around the corner, where a group of men were milling about, making angry sounds. She shook her head, wondering exactly how things had managed to escalate so quickly.
“Are you going to go back and fight them, or hide behind my skirts and disappear?”
