Hey, do you think I should use acne spot treatment? Because I really want to use them to treat my acne but I'm a little bit concerned about having them to burn my skin or leave it too dry. Btw, I have combination skin and if you have any good serums to use, let me know.
Hey thisismayhere, thanks again for recommending those products to an ask I had awhile back! I love it when you guys interact with each other and talk about skincare, I wish more people started conversations on here :.).
In terms of spot treatments, I think they are a great way at diminishing those blemishes that just don’t go away on their own. Many spot treatments can be drying, like you’re afraid of, but that’s a big part of the reason they are effective at killing blemishes, or at least in my experience. Like for example I use Mario Badescu’s drying lotion from time to time, when my acne is really out of control and I have those blemishes that are right on the surface. It does dry my skin where I apply it, but nothing I can’t fix with a moisturizer the next day. So don’t be afraid of using a few spot treatments, even the more drying ones, because you’re bound to find one that is effective for you skin type. Actually, I think spot treatments that are more drying are even better for acne prone, oily skin types. I’ve tried and emptied a lot of serums and I don’t really have a favorite - they’re like mists to me, they are all great in their own ways but I haven’t ran into anything amazingly good or amazingly bad. Some of my favorites that I’m using right now though are the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Serum, the Tea Tree Anti-imperfection Daily Solution by the Body Shop, and this collagen + retinol serum by Measurable Difference. Let me do a quick rundown of each so you know what they’re like. The Klairs serum is brightening and helps fade dark spots/scarring and thus even out the skin tone. My skin looks really glowy and bright when I use this, but it’s on the thick/heavy side in texture so I usually mix it with something - like my essence or even a few drops of water - so that it applies more to my face and doesn’t just stick to my hands. The Body Shop one is very lightweight (texture is almost like water) and its main ingredient is tea tree so it’s helpful for those with acne. You’d probably like this one, as its light enough for oily (and combo) skin and for acne prone skin. This one is called a “pre-serum” but oily skin types could use this as their sole serum while dry skin types could layer another serum on top of it, if they want to. The last one I found at Marshals so I’m not sure how easily you could find it, but I’m sure there are similar serums out there. The collagen + retinol serum helps with pigmentation and promotes new skin cell growth. I like it because it feels light on the skin and is brightening. Alrighty, that’s about all. Sorry, I somehow ended up writing an entire novel to answer your simple question. As always, hope this helps! <3
