now this is PEAK CONTENT, BABY!!!!!
actually mentally hostage to @shrineisland 's logical and satisfying idea for the sheikah v. zonai tech issue. i can just picture Zelda nerding out with the goats over shrines and cpu stats, and putting her hyperfixation to good use.
so far the sketch has looked the best but if i manage to finish a good render i may post that later.
does anyone else remember that 3rd mystery zonai famous youtuber skitty h bitty
Watched skittybitty's gerudo video and yea it summarized thoughts ive had for quite some time about their characterization and existence within the games.
One thing I think about sometimes, though, similarly in "this goes relatively unchecked within the community" is the insistence towards Ancient Technologically Advanced Civilizations that Zelda has, especially more recently. I always get an ick when it comes to these things in storytelling, especially when crossed with the whole...Everything To Do With Hylians Thing. It was fine with the Sheikah, at least, to my understanding, because they were still around. Their remnants existed and they were still a Regular People, a Regular People who just happened to technologically thrive. But the Zonai.....The concept of an ancient Technologically powerful race of aliens coming forth and mating only with the blonde haired blue eyed people to produce powerful offspring is just...Im not too fond of it. I also just dont like the Zonai, though, so I am biased against them, I guess.

The Octorok Reviews comment section
Context: there has been a bit of debate in the Zelda fanbase lately as to whether or not the Gerudo and the way that they're depicted are orientalist or not. Orientalism in a very basic sense refers to the depiction of Southwest Asia and North Africa (or the 'Middle East,' as most people know it) as an exotic 'other' in media. Orientalist media usually shows these cultures as being uniquely cruel, underdeveloped and irrational compared to Western cultures.
Octorok Reviews is a YouTuber who made a video talking about this topic, arguing that the Gerudo are not orientalist. It's... not very good. The research in it is very lacking, there are a lot of arguments that rely on completely inaccurate information, and there's also a quite a few sexist and racist comments strewn throughout. It's just a very gross watch, regardless of what one's position on the subject is.
Another YouTuber, SkittyBitty made a response to it, analysing the subject further and using research to argue against a lot of the points made in the original. They take the opposite position as Octorok Reviews. They are also openly non-binary and use they/them pronouns
Anyway, after that, a lot more people ended up seeing the original video by Octorok Reviews and flooded to the comments. Chaos ensues. Here are some of the grossest comments I have found. DISCLAIMER: pretty much all of these are just straight up bigotry. As a queer person myself, I obviously DO NOT support these views.
My stance: whether you believe that the Gerudo are orientalist or not, I really encourage people reading this to not engage with Octorok Reviews or his community.
He claims that he wants his channel to be welcoming to everyone, which is a nice thought, except he allows people like this into his comment section. There's this saying. that if you say that both wolves and sheep are welcome, you're only going to get wolves. I think that applies here and I don’t think it’s safe at all to interact with these people.
Bonus: Octorok Reviews misgendering Skitty while also referring to anyone that disagrees with his stance as “radicals.”
Yes. Are we stupi-- *sees that it's famous youtuber skittybitty* ... *adds it to watch later*
