So this is a bit unusual (and I promise it won’t become a habit) but as you all know, it’s just been Easter! In Sweden, we have legends of witches gathering and flying to a place called Blåkulla (Blue hill) and dancing with the devil. So a lot of kids dress up as witches and go trick-or-treating during Easter =)
This song isn’t about the witch tradition per se, but I still rather like it (it’s probably the only Swedish folksong I like) and since it’s Easter… why not?
It should be noted that this was recorded in the kitchen for funsies and isn’t a serious attempt at all ^^;
That said, this is still a Homestuck blog and while we’re on a break right now (due to DagwoodDeluxe’s school) we will soon be back!
(The name of the song would probably be translated as “The Horga Song” or “The Song of Horga”)
The fiddler took the fiddle out of the case
and lifted the bow up high towards the round Sunday sun
The people of Hårga got excited
and forgot God and the whole world
They did their dancing on meadows and hills
high on the ridge of Hårga
Both shoes and heels got worn out
Ne’er could you stop the dance
Hey, fiddler, where do you come from
Say, who’s taught you to play this way, wildly, madly
If you don’t stop my heart will burst
God save us, he’s got a cloven hoof for a foot!
The bells had tolled in the valley
and there was father, mother, brother, walking to the church in the parish
Now where could the youth of Hårga be
Oh dear God, they’re still dancing!
They were dancing to the Hårga song,
high on the ridge of Hårga
and tears aren’t far away,
as they dance until both body and soul break
Before we dance away our life and soul and bones from our bodies
Oh no, he won’t stop his dance
Until everybody falls down dead!
