And finally (so I can move on haha) a comparison between the Striped Skunk and the *cough* Western Spotted Skunk.
They are so different to each other its really fun to see but in the same hand the closer you look the more similarities you'll notice.
Its clear to see why they were classified as Mustelids for so long and teeth were something that was used as a comparison but now we can actually use dentition to seperate them as Skunks have fewer cheek teeth than Mustelids. Usually they tend to have only one molar on the upper and two on the lower jaws.
Thier carnassial teeth are super developed allowing them to shear through thier food with ease. Since they opportunistic predators it allows for easier feasting. Thier incisors are also sharp helping them cut through plant matter.
