Hello! Your trickster cosplay is amazing! I'm trying to do his red and gold outfit for a con coming up, but his hat is killing me! How did you do yours so perfectly?! I've made a base but the strands are so confusing? Also Happy New Year!!!
Hi! Thank you so much! <3Sorry if I'm replying really late(?), I only noticed this ask now.I made it mostly out of foam, steel wire, the fabric (duh), paint, and lots of hot glue. I made the base out of foam (made sure the base sat tight around my head, you don’t want it to be falling off all the time), and measured and cut foam for the fabric to fill it up, and stuck steel wire inside of that to bend the shapes of the longer parts. Be sure to leave some wire on the lower side, so you can stick them in the base and curl them up, upside (so they won’t poke into your head, it’s not so pleasant).
Cut and sew the fabric for all the different uppity parts and for the base itself, and sew them together where possible. I’d put the fabric on the foam first though, it’s a pain to get that right, and it might be more of a struggle if all the parts are already connected (and you haven’t measured the fabric in the first place and just did whatever like me because yeah). However, to not just go ahead and do it the wrong way, you might consider putting on a layer on toilet paper, and ducttaping it around. You can just cut it and take it off and tah-dah, you have an actual pattern and can edit it any way you like!I just painted the stripes on, but make sure it’s paint that sticks to fabric!!!!!!!
I’m having a hard time finding the right words atm as I am just beat but I hope this is some sort of help.My version of the hat is definately not perfect (though I appreciate the compliment), as I only spent about a day on it, maximum due to time limits? So yeah I’m sure you could do a lot better. If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to send an ask/message. All the best!
