A solitary man. Alone. By himself. His hands behind his back, his head in the clouds. A group of scouts see him, report it to their superior, who relays the message back to their leader. The man was the emperor of Shu. All by himself. It had to be a trap.
Nervous eyes glanced at his every movement, at his every action. When he crouched down, the scouts flinched. When he turned suddenly, they almost jumped. How could one man make them so scared? They needed desperately that kill order. Just so that their suffering would be over. And very soon, it would be over. When the enemy troops had snuck behind them and silenced them for good.
He was only a distraction. A toy to mess with the enemy’s mind and it had worked, thousands put to the slaughter compared to a very small number for Shu. It would be the greatest victory in this upcoming battle, turning the tide for Shu, allowing them to gain new territory and new resources. The people gave a good cheer.
But this great victory, this almost impossible feat, how was it done? Who was the one to come up with this brilliant strategy to silence the enemy’s communication? It turned out to have been a fluke in a greater plan to rescue the emperor. It was only later that they saw the opportunity to change the course of battle. But the emperor was safe. And better yet, he was unaware of his position in this accidental strategy.
Except he was aware. His eyes briefly shone with a sinister knowing, a knowing of what the enemy would do when they would encounter him alone. A wicked smile popped up on his face as he made his way through the halls of the empty palace, no one but his mind knowing the truth behind this humble victory.
