Okay so I named this sideblog "plutos-THOUGHTS-and-sketches" so it's time to take up my promise on that
This is gonna be my ancestors, elders, and a little bit of skid, spirits (I'll elaborate on them in another post) and some miscellaneous hcs that should line up together and i hope that it doesn't interfere with any lore. Buckle up this is gonna be a long one
So! Let's start off with ancestors. What are they?
I like to think that they used to be skids but then willingly gave away their light. They're just tired of existing for eternity, you know? So they dropped their eternality (they could still be killed but then would be reborn- like through eden! But there weren't any widespread methods of doing that before and they still got reborn :( ) and became a mortal species we now know as ancestors. They. Well. Reproduced. And forgot their roots. They forgot why they always feel like they're missing a major part of them (their light), and they didn't understand why light healed them and made them feel euphoric. (Note that only some light can properly heal them. Like. They're basically humans. Fire WILL burn. But, say, a manta's light will feel caressing.)
So what's up with Elders, then?
Basically! They're normal ancestors. Except, with a twist: they didn't give away ALL of their light. Only some of it, really. But it's a permanent move anyways. They continue to have limited lifespans, but they're much, much longer than normal ancestors. And some of their skid physiology (is that the right term?) kicks in, letting them grow and grow for as long as they aren't dead. (They can't be reborn, though.) (And does that mean that skids before used to be giant? Yes. Does that also mean that skids who don't eden run get to be taller? Also yes.) so they just get to be the cool guys, who remain to be above the rest, containing the knowledge and power and potential.
And now I'll elaborate a bit on some of the specifics about all of this. Healing is basically relighting another skid, and there is a whole, high paying, high status job that's basically having the right type of light that can heal others instead of burning them. (Without it, all krill attacks would have been lethal. Even then, it's expensive as hell.)
Ancestors have the lifespan of a normal human and elders are basically five times that. Magic (spells) exist and they can only be cast by the most talented, the most full of light ancestors. This means that basically all elders can do spells if they put their mind to it.
Anyways about the thing where i said they always feel like they're missing a part of themselves. So they die, wake up (I'll elaborate on that more in another post that will include my spirit hcs) and go like "wow i feel great" because eden basically inserted some light into them
They all have normal names, but the Elders that we know don't share theirs anymore with normal ancestors because of an.... Event. (This is bordering on my au stuff so we'll skip over that. Let your imagination go wild) Which means that if a skid (i hc that all skids know elder names (search sky cotl elder names if you don't know them, they have names)) suddenly calls one by their name ancestors would be confused and Elders would be flashbanged and wary
Masks are a traditional thing! Some people replace them with face markings instead and some don't wear anything at all (but those are few), which means that some cultures that are disconnected from the norm don't wear masks (like the nine colored deer spirits. Take a look. Feudal lord is the only one with an actual mask and even then you can't convince me that it isn't just giant eyebrows)
Eden exploded (shattering) from darkness corruption overload. How that happened is up to you but I hc that Resh is a skid and was tired of seeing everyone dying so he researched and came up with that solution to make everyone immortal
Anyways thank you for coming to my ted talk there Will be a part two
Sky lore/headcannons dump part two boogaloo. This one is about spirits, and maybe a little about skids and winged light
part one in link below
Okay so I named this sideblog "plutos-THOUGHTS-and-sketches" so it's time to take up my promise on that
This is gonna be my ancestors, elde
So I like to put spirits into a hierarchy: Elder spirits, Season guides, and Regular/Seasonal spirits. So. What are they?
Spirits are beings of pure light, just like winged lights are. I'm not talking about those btw because idk what they are in my head... yet. But! that's not exactly it. Here, spirits are more like the... vessels, of light. In order to function, and be aware, they gotta be supplied with light. Otherwise! They will enter a dormant state.
And, of course, not everyone gets the same amount of light- Elders get it directly from skids (cutsceeeeenes~), Season guides get it from you finishing their quests (yay), and Regular spirits.... get it from season guides or Eden itself (last one is only when they come as ts or something). This would explain why we see some spirits out and about, while others aren't (e.g. performance spirits compared to... I don't know, Abyss)
Also this would mean that Hopeful Steward takes care of it for the regular spirits in aviary lmao
Anyways! Regular spirits CAN be woken up by skids. just give them a little light like skids do to elders (unfortunately this isn't part of the game), and then they're out and about until the light you gave them fades out- takes about an hour or so, depending on how active they will be. and here's where we go into the headcannons zone, returning to winged light even though I can't explain those.
If regular spirits want to be out and about for MORE than an hour, they would have to take a winged light- filling up their "vessel" in a self-filling loop. OFC, after having taken one, they can fly but beware- never let them use the last star on their cape. they'll just dissipate and you'll have to wake them up again :T
also, if you want to make things more interesting, make it so that it would be inadvisable to wake them up for the first time by yourself- wait for them to have come as a ts at least once. that way, you don't have to deal with them violently reliving their death by Eden shattering for the first time.
also, I like to think that season guides have at least some control over their seasonal area (if they have one), while elders are stuck in their statues (rip), can oversee the entirety of their realms, and have limited control over them. Also! they can meet each other in an in-between if needed (aka vault elder scene)
anyways onto skids. They're literally just fallen stars given form. We all knew that. And if they give up their light, they become ancestors/elders depending on how much they gave up (check part one). they're here to make sure that the balance of the realms won't tip over to darkness.... and here to also clean the mess that SOMEONE made (looking at you, Resh. naughty little skid you are, exploding eden)
aaaaand that's it for now. if I think of something I'll add more parts. otherwise! only headcannons from me from this point on.
@ebi-skycotl OF COURSE YOU JUST GOTTA LET ME KNOW AND I'LL SHARE WITH PLEASURE
Part two to this
Gonna start of with the name list again- Cackling Cannoneer = Thane, Anxious Angler = Fern, Abyss Guide = Abby, Ceasing Commodore = Alemez, and Bumbling Boatswain = Ismael
The whole crew has a slew of different accents- Thane is scottish (as said before), Fern is English, Abby is Iris (she got it from her mom!), Alemez is Welsh, and Boatswain... Doesn't exactly have one, since they are selectively mute :)
I like to believe that Alemez is, in fact, Abby's dad based on the concept notes!
Abby, as the Guide of Abyss, has more of a leeway than most guides since she ALSO has to look after the Beast for it to not escape.
By leeway, i mean that she's more grumpy now than she was alive because she has a constant flow of telepathically transmitted information of what's approximately happening in Treasure Reef
That does make it easier for her to relax a little though, because she doesn't actually have to be on the lookout. Still means that she has a constant tiny headache. Poor child :(
She doesn't ever tell anyone this.
Alemez and Ismael are longtime friends that trust each other's back. While Alemez is the captain, Ismael is first mate
Everyone has at some point used one of Thane's guns. He always fusses over their safety with them whenever he finds out but prefers to not admit it
Alemez has emotionally adopted everyone in the crew. No he doesn't care that you're not blood related you're part of the crew and thus the family
(kudos to @doppelneer for this one!) the whole crew has at least one gem on their body, which signifies them as part of the crew. but! That's not their only function. Since the gems are actually darkstones, they're used as emergency batteries if needed!
If they would ever accept another crewmate, you'll know you're like actually part of the crew if they give you a gem. Use this for your sky ocs, because i did ;)
Ismael "makes" the gems! Just whittles them down then checks out where would be the best place to have it on the respective person to figure out what frame would be best for it
Fern is so anxious because they had bad childhood "friends" probably, who gave them lots of frights with crabs and whatanot for laughs. If they ever told anyone their story Thane would track them down and stare them down with absolute simmering rage
Fern is the medic of the ship! Though, they have no idea how to treat fatal wounds, like a krill attack. Just delay them.
They named their ship "Skirl", which means scream/call/screech, for their call for the sea (and also because Alemez and Ismael, the two who started the crew, cannot sing at all)
They tend to avoid krills, though if there's only one then they can gang up on it well enough
All leftover fish gets dried! They all have a dried fish pouch for snacks and if they go exploring for longer than intended.
Everyone on the crew knows how to sew, as a necessity. And repair the ship. Of course, some are way better than others. They just know them for emergencies.
Fern is the best at sewing. They made the snack (dried fish) pouches for everyone.
And that's it for now! A kinda badly organized list of headcannons that I could get off the top of my head that doesn't relate to any au I have with them for the least amount of confusion. Have fun!
Since the polluted geyser is supposed to had what I can only assume to be oil in it, im going to headcannon that sky children are very sensitive to pollution
Some trivia regarding the characters of my ask blog
As you may or may not have noticed, I (Mod Fable) run an ask blog alongside my friend (Mod Moros). The ask blog allows you to ask our OCs questions as well as ask the Elders questions.
Since my primary blog has more traffic, I’ve decided to post some trivia about the characters and about the version of Sky they live in.
If you like my trivia, maybe consider checking out the ask blog.
Do note that much of what is here is not general sky lore or trivia, but personal lore and ideas I’ve had and decided to run with - as you do for a game in which lore is quite open to interpretation.
As of writing this post, (January 27, 2021) the blog is currently under an event where a mysterious figure now known as Memoir has hijacked communication away from the titular character (Uber) and needs to be distracted for long enough for the Elders or something to seize back control of the line of communication.
Enjoy!
The name of the world (plane) that the characters live in is known as Elysium
The race that the Elders, Spirits, and Sky Children are a part of are called the Ester. They are somewhat of a mix between a kind of elemental of light and a heavenly being due to being born from stars.
The Ester don’t have genders as we know them, though they do have pronouns they’ll go by.
Tsadi trained and basically raised Sah and Mek. They are pretty much his children.
Part of the reason I made Teth’s pronouns both She/Her and He/Him is because when I first saw their cutscene, I thought they looked like a dude. The other reason is that I decided “why not have both be their preferred pronouns? We have people who identify as bigender; why not have Teth be similar to that?”
There are living Ester of the Spirit kind.
Ester don’t really have true parents like humans do. They do, however, form family groups.
Sah does have a prosthetic arm, which is his left arm. Mek, however, does not. Mek asked Teth to make armor similar to the appearance of Sah’s prosthetic as an act of solidarity.
As somewhat implied in the previous trivia, Teth created Sah’s prosthetic.
Lamed knows healing magic.
Ayin has magic relating to nature.
Daleth is what we might call a wizard; meaning his magic comes from years of study.
Teth can, and has, knock someone out with a single punch. Don’t mess with the forest guardian or those they’re protecting.
Kinn can breathe underwater due to their turtle mask.
Uber is gifted with magic, but is forbidden to use any spell other than the firework spell unless under supervision. There is a story behind that.
All Ester have natural psychic abilities.
Uber has eaten, or tried to eat: sand, snow, a spear, a shield, dark plants, a banner, candles, leaves, a pillow, and a small vase.
Uber is no longer allowed on the roof of the valley temple due to an incident.
Uber has fallen asleep hugging a crab.
Mek once asked (read: forced) Sah to chase Uber when she tried to eat one of the candles around the statue in the valley temple.
Lamed and Kinn chased Uber when she was caught eating wasteland sand.
There was a war that happened.
Sah and Mek have telepathy with each other. It’s obvious when the two are arguing using it.
