starter for @sky--james - April 2019
With the world championships over and the new academic year starting up in Japan, it was high time to focus on studies for the next two months until he had to dive back into ice shows and preparations for the next season. It was easier to focus on studies when he wasn’t being distracted by the ice. Of course, he kind of had no choice but to play catch-up on his English coursework at the Chicago university campus, as that semester was coming to a close in May. His English textbook was currently his worst enemy as he mulled over the texts in the campus library, seated at a table in the far end of one of the rooms filled with students who were busy working on term papers and studying for exams. It was rare for him to be here in person but it was usually easier to manage a course or two during the spring semester than a winter one.
He’d been mulling over one paragraph for a while now. He had his English book open and a page of notes in both English and Japanese--translations of parts he didn’t understand well. On top of his book lay his phone, which he used for translation help--except he was a bit stumped. Perhaps he’d been at it for too long and his brain was refusing to intake any more knowledge.
His phone buzzed with a message and he clicked on it, his resolve to not get distracted from his studies breaking instantaneously--it was a video link. He clicked on it, watched it on with his phone still on must, and still ended up making a noise despite trying not to laugh out loud. He quickly looked up and met the green eyes of the other occupant of his table. He managed a somewhat sheepish, apologetic look and softly said, “Sorry,” hoping that he hadn’t disturbed the other’s studies with his desperate need for a distraction.
